Hilton Miami. Better prices/service than the beach, complimentary airport shuttle, much cheaper rates, 4 diamond hotel.

If you absolutely have to go to the beach or Downtown here are my favorites (even though you will be paying much more)

    South Beach:
    Ritz Carlton South Beach
    The Loews
    Shore Club
Delano-if you want to be in the trendy hotel/club environment

    Downtown:
Mandarin Oriental-Best high priced hotel in Miami. Not being sarcastic
    Intercontinental
    4 Seasons
    JW Marriott

Coral Gables, where the best restaurants are located, try the Biltmore or the Hyatt.

I was just browsing when I saw your post...

I must insist you don't go to the shore club, it's really a pit. They've let it go to crap since they tried to flip it and sell the units off as condos. Plus, all the rooms that face the ocean also get the noise form the club below. Bass until 2am...and they won't move you if you can't sleep.

Delano has redone some of their rooms, if you're going to stay there request one of those. Otherwise you're paying too much for a crappy room.

My personal opinion of the best hotel on the beach is the Setai, hands down. However, rooms are approx 500 off season.

If you're looking for something a little less crazy and more affordable, then maybe the marriot south of 5th street. Good hotel, and a decent location.
If you're wanting something kind of trendy but a little more affordable then I'd recommend the catalina on collins. I believe rooms are around $200. Any questions, PM me.

Big fan of the Mandarin Oriental- last time I was there I ran into Sammy Sosa (and his posse).. One of the nicest hotels I've been to in the US.
