So this weekend I'm in Sugar Land and I spot a Dodge Charger police car on the road and get intimidated for a minute but then wonder if it was a V6 or Hemi powered charger. Anyway, Anyone know if these cars have the Hemi in it or if their just the base vehicles? It looked pretty cool but if it's a base Charger with the V6 then essentially it's just a regular snail-speed police cruiser with a meaner look right? Because I've driven the V6 Charger and wasnt impressed with the pick up.

No matter what you say, it still isn't a hemi. It's just a marketing ploy by Dodge.

Interesting that they are cop cars now. If they are Sugarland police cars, they will need a lot of replacement bumpers.

Dodge offers both the 8 and 6 cylinder in the police package. Saw an unmarked white one just a couple of hours ago in Frisco (north Dallas suburb for those not in DFW). I actually like the look of it! White with black steelies and a push bar, very cool. I wonder if it's possible to order that package for civilian use?

I saw a dark blue police package Charger on eBay, actually. Brand new. Figured it had slipped through the cracks. If I remember correctly, one could order the old 5.0 LX Mustang in the HD/Police package as a civilian back in the day. A lot of people did that for track/drag use, as they were beefed up and stripped out.

I think a white Charger PoPo pkg. would be a fantastic cruiser for the I45 run from DFW to HOU! (Waiting for whiner from Crown Vic. thread to chime in...)

So is TDPS using them yet? I've seen the infamous black & white pick-ups but not the chargers yet.

The only proper way to see the performance would be done in the gentlemanly fashion of racing for pink slips.

That show " Pinks" is pitiful. More arguing than racing. Why don't they adjust the difference on the christmas tree, just like in bracket racing? This adjusting each race with car lengths is bs, as you never get to see what they run in the 1/4 mile. They must guarantee them some money if you lose, as a lot of the cars have ' just been completed".

There's a lot to be done there, Phil. You would have to swap the hood, front bumper, wheels, and trunk (to lose the tail, which you've already done). The exhaust tips are different, but I would have to see the two side by side to tell if the rear bumpers are different. The ride height is different, but no one would notice. And you would need to test fit the wheels, since your brakes are bigger than those on the standard Charger.

But I like your thinking. I was just gonna bolt on a blower on the 5.7L motor!

I've seen several over the course of this weekend. Arlington (DFW area) has at least one, as does Houston. Yes, TDPS has a couple running around too. It'd be rather sweet if they had the full-blown Hemi. Care to explain a little further on the "semi-hemi", WriterGuy?

It is not a true hemi. A Hemi had a Hemispherical combustion chamber or rounded so when the spark ignited the gas the power was more directed into the crank than on a flat head.

The New Hemi's have a Semi Hemispherical combustion chamber (where the top of the piston and the head of the cylinder are at maximum compression there is an Arch in the head) and it creats the same basic idea but True HEMI's are good producers of power but at a price. Fuel

In addition to the fuel consumption of the 426's (not the early models) they were incredibly dirty--high emitters of NOX and HC's, but hey Richard Petty didn't care as he rode a bunch of these to the winningist spot in Nascar. And as a former owner of one of these--for unabashed straight line acceleration---they were unsurpassed!!!!!

That looks like one of the all-wheel-drivers, too. Popular option in the Midwest.

how does it look like an All wheel driver? What shows it? Didn't know they had an all wheel option on the Magnum. I love how the Magnums look, kinda like a new Nomad that's been chopped in the rear.

The suspension on the awd versions sits considerably higher, mostly noticeable in the front end. I'm not sure if there are clearance issues with the drivetrain, or if they set it up to clear deep snow, but it's a big gap. On the civilian cars, they get different wheels as well. They have the awd option on the Magnum and 300C, but not on the Charger AFAIK.

Shenendoah PD(north of Woodlands)has had their Chargers for several months....Cars come with the 350hp Hemi 5.7:cool: Chargers are nice but they are just to plentiful, I ordered a silver SRT8 and backed out by the time it arrived. Very nice cars but I just see way to many to have one in my garage.

I've only seen 3 SRT-8 chargers in san antonio. I may go for the Challenger that is supposedly being released at the end of next year(according to dealership). Otherwise, I'll just finish the motorswap on my 7.

Better cozy up to your dealer now and get on the list. The Challenger will be hugely popular, and a long wait for sure.
