Anyone here with experience on Houdaille Shocks?

Looking at them, there are people that advertise that they are disassembled and rebuilt.

I don't see how they come apart???

How do you tell they need rebuilt?

    Need some input on these......

I used Dan as well. He did a great job.

To disassemble you have to unscrew the round body off the part that mounts to the frame.

If they are bad like the ones I had you could freely move the arm up and down. Check the oil level, if the oil has leaked out it indicates the seals are bad and they need to be rebuild. If the arm does not move or binds it indicates their may be rust or other issues in the body and they should be rebuilt.

If the arm moves freely but with significant resistance there is a chance you can use them as is. However the seals will be old so there is good chance they will start leaking after a bit of use.

There are manuals on line on how to rebuild them. You can find them by looking up early Ford shocks. To do it properly you will have to make a lot of special tooling.

    Cheers Jim
