Do people do house swapping anymore? Where you trade houses with another couple or family for say a month? With the promise that you will take care of it like your own? My wife really wants to start spending a month in Chicago each summer and I was whining about how much it would cost to rent a nice apartment in town and then I thought that someone there might want our beach house for a month. Has anyone here done that? Is there a clearing house somewhere that people post their wishes and houses?
I just (like, yesterday) heard about this website - craigslist.com - which is supposedly a clearing house for damn near ANYTHING. The whole site is very minimalist, but has a ton of nfo. It looks like there is a "housing swap" link for each geographical area! www.craigslist.com
You mean like these http://www.homeexchange.com/ http://www.exchangehomes.com/ http://www.thevacationexchange.com/index.html (yahoo search - "house exchange vacation" )
House swapping sounds complicated.... maybe you could just swap wives with somebody in Chicago for a few weeks.
I could not live without craigslist. I have found every renter for my San Francisco rental properties through Craigslist. If you notice the # of posting in places like SF and NY, you live and die by Craigslist. I wish people used it more in Texas. They launched the Dallas site over 3 years ago and it still is nowhere near where the other cities are.
Welcome to 2002 you beer drinkin' hick. Funny that I just came from CL to FC as I was searching for a new place to rent.....
Hey Trashy, I hear Huntsville, AL is really nice. I think Judge and I are planning on parking our fat a$$es on a beach for at least a week when we fly home for good. ...God willing and the creek don't rise. Spicey ___________________________
Thanks for the info. Just listed an apartment for rent and already 3 people wanting to see it. Craigslist rocks and it's FREE!
Oh yeah, I forgot about that major bonus.....everything is listed for free except job listings. A lot of companies list on their own website and Craigslist (i.e. Williams-Sonoma) because it's only $50-$100 (depending upon location) to list an open position vs. $300 for sites like Careerbuilder.com. I've also found tickets for concerts, sporting events, even a few dates......
I thought we were going to go to your sister's place on the outer banks? Besides, I can go fishing with her husband that way...
