Does anyone have a pool cleaner they recommend in the 1960/TC Jester area? I am in Olde Oaks. I am probably going to get on Cabana's waiting list because I know they are good (and their higher prices are earned).

Veterans Pool Service "cleaned" my pool for the last two weeks. My PPM Chlorine was zero again today as it was just two days after I hired th4em...and it is solid green. Fired them. See pics. The bucket on the steps is a dose of algacide (9in pool water) about to be added by me along with 5 lbs of shock (my pool is between 35k and 40k gallons.)

If you have a sand or cartridge filter you may have the dreaded "green water pool syndrome"! This is a particularly pesky problem and it is quite difficult to deal with. This strain of algae will grow in 18ppm chlorine environments and thrive. it is strictly a filtration problem not a CL2 problem, matter of fact, all of the chlorine in the world will not cure the problem.
If on the other hand you have a DE filter and it is in good shape then your pool service is lethargic or non-attentive and should be dismissed.
If you filtration is as described in the first paragraph, PM me and I will tell you how to get rid of the GWPS problem this time. I have been studying this problem for the last 7 years.

Dump the algecide and shock in there. Not sure how much good it would do. Looks to me like the algea on the steps is already dead. It's just needs to be swept and filtered.

I have heard of the problem you are talking about. This issue is purely mustard algae with green algae popping up as soon as the chlorine drops below .5 PPM. It is already blue now. PM sent anyway...just in case.

Once I hit it with shock and alagecide from yellow and green algae it all dies. One thing of clarifier clears it up in two days.

Yes - that algae is dead - massive algae bloom caused by inattention and zippo chlorine. I shocked it and algaecided it. Follow-up shocking tomorrow with clarifier. Failure to follow-up shock results in a rebloom in 3 or 4 days.

I had this problem last summer and spent a lot on pool chemicals trying to get the levels correct. I have a DE filter so the problems that happen with sand filters are different.

We finally decided to completely drain the pool and refill it. It cost me about $120 in water to refill it but the water coming into the pool is perfect as far as Ph goes. Rented a sump pump from Home Depot and had the pool drained in three hours. Had it cleaned and refilled by the next morning. 21,000 gallon pool. Drained the pool water onto the yard and you would not believe how green the grass got in a hurry......

Just a suggestion but with all that pool services can cost and the chemicals and time required, it might end up being a good option. No problems this summer so far and with the over 30 days of over 100 degree temp if there were going to be problems this would be when. Chlorine evaporation in hot weather is increased tremendously.

    They were here today :)

They reworked the filter...should work fine now. Also hit the pool with some settling agent to knock all the cloudiness to the bottom. The boss (wife), per instructions, overfilled the pool (up to concrete) so they can come in tomorrow and use an external pump/vacuum and suck all the debris out (dead algae galore).

I will start a weekly service agreement with them.

Do you happen to know if Kenny was the one doing the job? If so that's my friend.

He was the one who Zeobrited my filter several months ago. He had a heck of a time getting the top off my filter...ye old rubber rmallet for brake rotor loosening came in handy.

We talked a while about my 348 once he was done. I was headed out for a romp after he finished the filter. I was not here today when they came by.

Cabana is on the job. As you can see below the recovery is happening at high speed. They have a waiting list for a reason. Note this is less then 24 hours after they started. Also note this is right after I brushed the pool walls so it is a little bit cloudy in the hot tub.

Kenny was out here today FYI. They also diagnosed an electrical problem I am having with my heater (not that it is needed right now :p ). That will be fixed along with a 3 way valve on the filter.

    Thanks for the support all.
