Being I grew up in Houston and lived there most of my life. I wanted to take a guess on what's going on in Houston right now with that weak storm coming in.

    1. Frank Billingsley is on TV giving "Storm Reports" every 28 seconds as if there has been a major change from the report he gave 28 second prior.

    2. His reports are all "doom and gloom". He talks about massive flooding, strong winds and possible tornados. He has the entire city scared and on edge.

    3. Lines at gas stations are 10 cars deep.

    4. Panic has broken out at Kroger and Randall's and there's no bottled water left on the shelf.

Tuesday will turn out to be partly cloudy, light winds from the east and an occasional shower just like all the other times.

    How close am I?

I am visiting Houston on business right now. I imagine you will be pretty close. Based on the forecasts I have seen, tomorrow might be windy and rainy...then die out in the evening...

just drove in from dallas and on louetta road, cars were literally piled up 10 cars in line to get gas. it was 110 degrees according to my car thermo and at least 107 degrees according to the radio in dallas today.

when rita came through, we had the same scare stuff, i think it literally rained 3 drops at my house and two gusts of winds that my dog could have f*rted.

alison was a flood situation, bt people are in a panic. i drove to dallas this morning and drove back this afternoon. all the tx dot lighted signs warned of a forming storm in the gulf and to fill your gas tank.

given the circumstances from the last storms, i understand, but think everyone is over reacting. we will see

at the end of the day, i think the whole global warming fear is driving more than anything else. i have lived in texas my whole life. i am a 7th generation texan. my family moved here on land grants from mexico in the early 1800's. i'm not going anywhere.

that being said, the doom and gloom aspect is what i deal with everyday. people are being stupid and reacting accordingly. why run?

stay and fight like our ancestors did! we only can look at who we are and what we have to gain. there is no rewason to tuck our tails between our legs and run.

come on, we have to keep those davey crockett racoon caps selling. they are so much about who WE are and what WE stand for.

i am a texan. i will go down fighting, will you?

I was in town last week during the tail end of the hurricane, nothing new for Houstonians because it's something they learn to live with & handle quite well. It still amazes & scares me some of their multitasking skills while driving.

My photo from last week leaving Bellaire.

Well where I live we caught some hard rain and wind for about 20 min. earlier. Of course our power went out because it always does when there is a breeze in this neighborhood(I can not stand that) but nothing crazy. 10 min from here a friend called me to tell me about a soccer game on tv that I couldn't watch but he could cause it wasn't even raining over there. If you don't like the weather in Houston, wait 5 min or drive 10. Earlier today I went to get some smokes from the store and I didn't think about everyone going to get gas today but there were tons of people filling and waiting to fill up. Water was running out at stores by 12 or 1 when I was watching the news today. People drive like idiots cause they have to get home and in shelter so the roads suck. The good thing is when I was at Lowes today getting some products I noticed they were selling their batteries pretty cheap so I jumped on that and bought quite a bit and saved some money. It is going to be a mad house tomorrow morning on the roads though. I am not looking forward to that at all. Anyway you were pretty correct about your post ADON

It was great meeting you Saturday morning! Thanks for sending the calvary (Wylie) to bail me out of the wrong Starbucks! My commute from Clear Lake this morning to Galleria took exactly 35 minutes. No traffic (although the report was heavy traffic from Monroe to Park Place) but the only drawback is everyone who drives a pickup thinks they can drive 65-75 on really wet roads.

Hello people, it's called hyroplaning (or aquaplaning if you are a Brit) and any speed above 50 mph puts you at a much higher risk of breaking traction and go careening off the wall or into the car next to you. I just wish people would drive with their heads out of their a$$es and get off their cell phones! My .02 rant is now complete and I feel much better!

It's the same with every news channel and anytime "severe" weather hits. I was pissed they didn't even do traffic reports this morning so I missed the cute smile of Jennifer Reyna telling me what was going on. Damn you!!!

Supposedly we're not suppose to get the heavy stuff till around noon. Can we get a decent storm this year please so I don't have to come to work?

It is horrible in my neighborhood. This is the worst storm in centuries. I took the car out to get gas as instructed by Transtar. :)

Well, you know you have to "suit up" for all the games, win lose or draw.......

The trouble here is you are together with 12 million idiots, some of them even speak our language....

Now this was BARELY a 'storm" but it's big PITA 'cuz we have to demobilize the construction sites, remove anything that can become airborne debris, etc....for a residence that means the back lawn chairs off the patio!

So I made sure Valeria's surface drainage swales were clear, and reminded her that sackcrete makes handy sandbags if the water reached her front door! Then left them all drinking vodka and lemonade by the fire.

This one was no where close the threat posed by Rita...

So: Empty gas tanks, the day off.....I may pick up my new Velzy balsa and head down to the Flagship in Galveston if the waves shape up..

My cancer surgery consultation was moved until tomorrow as the closed as courtesy to the staff, and Emmylou Harris canceled her Austin show Wednesday night due to a death in the family....

    From Houston over and out!

Jim, there's a 'deep puddle' on Hwy.59S inbound at Sugarland...I can COUNT on there being a smashed SUV against the inside rail, every time it rains!

I stayed home and wired up my stereo....we are ROCKIN" now....:D
