This has been the most travelled month for me in a while: Austin, San Antonio (2 1/2 days), Tampa for (3 hours), New York (one day), Los Angeles (one day), and now coming to Houston for 5 days! My wife is there for a national congress of Real Estate professionals. We are staying at the Hyatt in Donwtown and I have a rental car. What to do when not at the congress and where to eat? Ferrari events that week? We are arriving on Wednesday the 26th (morning) and stay till Sunday the 30th.(eve) . Martin
Doc, will contact you later today. Right now I have to get a cashiers check for a 360 Modena I just bought. Martin
Careful with that one Martin the good Doctor may take you and Speedy out to meet Luigi and we don't guarantee the results....
Martin, Doc, are you up for it next week. I can get tix for the Sat game. It is a day game at 3:05pm v Cards. Let me know.
Not to jump in on Martins thread, but I will be in Houston from Tuesday (May25th) to June 1st (following tuesday). The weekend I might go out to Austin to visit UT, but if you guys are arranging something during the week, I can come and crash the party as well.
Aries - Top 10 new chefs in the US La Columbe D'or - $$ Cafe Annie Chez Nous -only Mobil 4-star in Texas. But about 20 miles from your hotel. The original chef-owner is back. The Rainbow Lodge. Go just before sunset, the view is beautiful. You can also take the light rail up Main Street and never have to drive. Almost anywhere on the line is great...they can't be mediocre in this competitive environment and survive. Guaranteed, you will not starve in Houston!
Rainbow lodge is pretty cool...we took a trip down the bayou once and then ate there. We were the muddy footed ones!!! A wedding reception was there and my son scammed some flowers to take home to his mom! Floyd's is the best cajun seafood. On Sheperd. Cadillac bar (just north) has some DANGEROUS margaritas!! Goode Company has good seafood or BBQ on Kirby at two different restaurants. Ya'll PM and we'll get together! Blanco's is the honky tonkiest beer joint in River Oaks. Live music Wed. thru Friday. I don't know if you want tourist places or "local" places
Chuy's on Westheimer: classic TexMex, and don't miss "The Elvis Special"! Excellent museums, MFA at Montrose at Binz. The Jung Center bookstore across the street, you can find something for the wife and really look metrosexual! Not too many cowboys know that word! LOL!
Light Rail runs down Main St. to the Continental Club. I'll have to check this week's schedule and report back.
Good point! With Hickory Hollow right across the street! Great ribs there, IMO. Man, it's lunch time! And of course, art related, The Orange Show, and the Beer Can House, 222 Malone, up the street from Rainbow Lodge.
Hey Alan, I am leaving for Houston tomorrow morning. Not sure what you guys have set up, but I will leave my cell phone number here, and will try to check posts. Keep me updated if you figure out a lunch meeting or whatnot. 510-734-5344 -Ryan
C'mon down! Valeria and I are resting.....splashing in the pool! You driving or flying?? I'll try you on Wednesday!!!
Alan, I am flying and staying with my aunt and uncle (they live on kempwood drive) for a week. Just spending time with them and seeing UT are the only things on the agenda. I will have to see your trip pics in person, since the stupid photo place is giving you the run around. I also talked to Ralph (red lambo SE), and he said he will get in touch with as well, and will meet up. Oh and if Dr. Tax will be around, I will have to get his autograph!!!! -Ryan
Sorry for not checking in earlier. I bought some cars in the last few days, flew to LA for the Rally on Sunday then right back and try to get everything done before leaving Wednesday. How about a get together at the Car Museum on Saturday morning like around 11:00am and then have lunch at the rib place? we can also do Sunday if you guys prefer. That way my wife could join us as well. Any thoughts?
Sunday would be better for me. Have to jog over to Austin Saturday. Local blues sweetheart Carolyn Wonderland is at The Last Concert Cafe on Nance this evening. I put a fresh set of plugs in the Art Car last night. It should go this PM!
I assume you've dropped by FoH? On 59S. Or a trip to JRVs Pinnacle Motorsports on N. Post Oak. There's a few interesting projects underway there!
Tonight the Sean Reefer and the Resin Valley Boys take Texas twangabilly music to new highs, (sorry! ) at the Continental Club on South Main. Take the train from downtown, or drive West Alabama to one street before Main, then left one block, park on the grass (oops!) on the right. Speedy308 is not affiliated in any way with these guys, but Sean sounds like Hank Williams. Sr. until you decode the lyrics. A dance floor is available for some two steppin', if so inclined. I give it a "thumbs up" as a Texas cultural event. Maybe I can get Valeria into that slinky red dress and boots. That always stirs up the Rainbow Girls!!
After trying to get Googles directions we ended up in front of an office building on Allen Parkway trying to go to Goode Company Seafood. Well....that is their catering biz. We ended up on Kirby and 29th at Pesce and it was excellent. Will try for another one tomorrow. Thanks for all the tips.
Greetings. You may want to try Ruggles. It is located just at the corner of Montrose and Westheimer. This is just about the armpit of Houston. Ruggles has very good food. Do not go Saturday night. The wait is too long. They have a superb pecan roasted Salmon dish. The warm goat cheese salad is also good. That is a very heavy salad. Brenners Steak House on Freeway Interstate-10 West. It is very close to Beltway 8 and the feeder of I-10 West.
