Dave, apologies if this has already been asked previously....but will the engine lid close as normal with your set up? By the way...awesome set up. You going to make some kits to sell on as I'd definetly be interested.
Yes, the engine will close as normal. The TPS switches are the highest point, you only have to remove the rain tray from the underside of the engine lid, I took my mesh screen out too. Did not have to, its just easier to clean the lid, plus the engine shows through better. I have not yet figured out the pricing for a kit. I will have that info very shortly. Thanks for your interest.
Here is some of the stuff removed from the engine, not going back on. Also, all four calipers, rotors and brake hoses were replaced. The clutch discs were placed with Kevlar linings. Lastly the bumpers are replaced with Euro 355 parts front and rear. Guys, look at your coolant hose that runs from the expansion tank to the center of the coolant spider under the intake manifold. The end under the manifold was slighty weaping and so swelled up it was about to burst. I replaced it with a high pressure hose (light blue) in the engine bay pix. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Ah...So.... That's why no reply to : So what did you use as the TB's? From what car or what maker and size? What injector size are you using? What engine management are you using? It is a secret. I get it now. I'll bet once this gets to the commercial kit stage it will be cheaper to do forced injection and have dial-in horsepower too. One of the great things about the 348 is huge under bonnet space for things like intercoolers and twin turbo's ala F40.
This is my secret thought as well after all this talk about normal aspiration upgrades. But I like the discussions.
Hey Plugzit are you now out of the depths of wifedom? I talked to Ernie today he says you are MIA. Well the thread morphed from being very stooge like to getting on the commercial end. I hope it does not end this way. I'll be posting back on your original thread of 355TB's on 348 project.
Oh you funny. Try this one... Sometimes getting information is like pulling teeth. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Cummon Dave you gotta keep this at the Stooge level, spill the beans man. That way the rest of the crew can make their own. I'm sure that there are those that will still buy a kit. But you know me and the other Stooges. We like to do things ourselves, and on the cheap.
I'm not commercial about anything, just into tinkering. I do what I do, usually without telling anyone. This group of shadetrees seemed alright so I thought I'd share some info, however, negative comments like "So you did not do any calculations with helholtz resonance etc and just trial and error flowed it?" and "What do you think is coming out of the fuel pump?" from the expert really take the satisfaction away from special projects. Oh and its "helmholtz" by the way. I should be asking FBB what size TB's to use, and what size injector to use, and how to properly fabricate my intake manifolds, since I screwed it up. C'mon now, I don't need to be quized on my knowledge, nor will I respond to disrespectful comments. Did you guys order your fuel feed line upgrades yet? That post was clearly detailed with a link to purhchase and fab up your own. Not a dime for me, yeah, its commercialism alright. Oh, fired up the beast today, runs like a champ. Going to hang bumpers this weekend.
The only negative comment I made was regarding commercialism. I did not mention selling a kit but someone else did. << "So you did not do any calculations with helholtz resonance etc and just trial and error flowed it?" and "What do you think is coming out of the fuel pump?" from the expert really take the satisfaction away from special projects.>> These are not negative comments but real questions. I guess my head should be quite swollen now since you are so fearful of my vast knowledge that you think I know. I would not have asked the questions if I knew the answers then skewer you with them. I am one of the original shadetrees to FC and if you think <<This group of shadetrees seemed alright >> then you know calling people out is not my style unless they are promoting bad information. Sorry you think poorly of me. You can be the hero of my thread I'll go quietly.
You rock man. I too love doing my own "tinkering" and fabing. Yes I sell some of my stuff too, no apologies from me !! Glad to hear you have it started!!! Here is a quote I read somewhere: "one test is worth a thousand expert opinions." Can't wait to hear what kind of results you will see !!!
They're questions, they are quizes. Yes, your head is swollen, of vast knowledge. No, I am not "fearful" thats the last thing. No, I was not "calling you out" if I was it wouldn't be on some chat site! No, I don't think poorly of you, I can't prejudge someone I've never met. No, I'm not looking to be a "hero" of "your" thread. You had a question and I answered it. I guess I'll keep all my projects to myself, see you in my rearview... Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hey hasn't anyone read my post (above) . I love bickering as much or more than the next guy . Lets just continue on the noble quest for HP
I dig these projects. My own project is so simple that I'm embarassed by the other guys with their individual throttle bodies and custom air intakes, etc. I just want to get rid of the U-Turn black 348 air intake hoses. Just a simple BMC cone filter or some such that goes out as straight as I can manage from each stock tb via stock MAFs. I figure with that improved air intake plus a little of my ECU chip programming magic, I can get maybe 20 hp or a little more. Pretty tame, I guess, but I bet that a few fellow 348 Brothers would dig knowing just what to buy/do to get an extra 20 prancing horses at the rear wheels. Heck, I could at least help others with the chip programming. But...if one of the pros with one of these more ambitous projects clued us all in to how to use a larger MAF on each side...well, that would make my little project a bit bigger/better, I'd think. Could my intake idea above, plus larger MAFs, plus my custom Motronic 2.7 programming (and maybe Hyper-Flow cats) deliver 40 extra hp?? That would be some bargain budget-hp. ~~352 hp via 2 chips and some easy bolt-ons? I don't think that it's out of the question.
On come-on now, at least keep posting until you get to the dyno numbers .it seem none of the 348 projects have gotten to that point. Ive got a particular interest in your results since our intakes are of a similar design ..and it looks like a patio and baby will keep mine from completion this season. I honestly read FBB comment simply as questions, not quizzes, and I for one am also interested in the answers. I personally just like to make mental notes about what works or what you had trouble with on projects for future reference. Based on the posts Ive seen, I think FBB is doing a lot of reading and plotting, trying to figure out how to get another 100hp without spending any money. I didnt read any malice in FBBs questions, simply curiosity. I can also tell you that I cant even count the number of times Ive be asked about resonance calculations for the various intakes Ive build over the years which Ive never bothered to do. I generally just refer them to a dyno sheet or ask them to wait until I have a dyno sheet. A lot of non-sense gets printed in the automotive press and people who read it tend to ask about whatever is hot that year. Adjustable intakes are hot at the moment, like cams were a couple years ago. When these things come up, I usually explain that the point of both is to make a wider power curve, which makes the car a bit nicer to drive on the street, but does not add hp or improve lap times at the track. I go on to explain that in fact at the track, it adds weight which reduces lap times and also adds complexity which reduces reliability. ..... Which always leave them with a confused look on their faces, to which I respond dont believe most of what you read in car magazines, the "articles" are generally little more than paid advertisements.
Hear, hear. Dave, don't take fatboy to seriously. I regularly duke it out with him, and still love him as a brother. What is funny is that, he was so skepticale about the ITB's on Plugzit's car. We would sit and argue constantly when I was rebuilding my gear box, which is how the Stooges were formed, and that is part of being a Stooge. Heck even ask NoDoubt or gothspeed about how we argue, they have seen it first hand. But like I said bro, don't take what tub-a-lard says to heart. Okay now back to making some cheap power. Nuk, nuk, nuk.
Mark, This guy from the UK had posted some Dyno figures on his 348 mods. (403bhp) http://www.clubscuderia.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=12847 Here is the dyno sheet that was posted. Paul Image Unavailable, Please Login
