If they are telling you they will increase the price by $5k if you do another test, definitely walk..thats not very ethical..or tell them hey, ok then if its another bad test you guys decrease the price by $25k lol.

I think i know the car you're talking about 12K miles Red F1 with accident...

Ah, that makes more sense. On top of everything else, $5k is not nearly a big enough discount for a low-compression engine!

+1 on this. I've tried a Harbor Freight and several others. HF got returned an hour later. Dont buy cheap tools. Not even for minimal usage. Your knuckles will thank you and you'll use less migrain medication.

Typically want to see less than 10% of difference between the four cylinders on one bank. Number can vary per gauge as has been reference and if cylinders are wet versus dry.

My HF leak down tester works great. All my cylinders show 680psi, so really healthy. :)

I'm sorry but that mechanic should not be paid for his time if he is using a HF gauge and giving you those results. That is not a professional tool and does not produce professional results or even remotely accurate results for that matter. If he didn't realize that something was wrong with his process or tool then I would not trust his work.

Yeah, this is a good lesson from the PPI 101 course I took….only use brand knowledgeable professionals with good tools.

No harm, no foul in this case…..and I bet the prospective buyer ends up happier.

The fact they're relatively flat across the board makes me think the gauge is ****ty. The variance between the cylinders is pretty tight.
