I couldn't find anything else to fix! So I gave myself a FIX! Yuk Yuk Image Unavailable, Please Login
The black car looks so damn pretty on the white snow. And there's nothing wrong with taking an F-car out in the winter. Heck, Roy Cats just crossed the snowy mountain pass with snow tires mounted on his Lambo
i would imagine these cars dont do too bad in teh snow, engine weight over the rear tires, running at low rpms i bet it would work..
Oh my god, scream and shout and run for the hills! Taking out the f-car in the snow will make it automatically melt from rust in front of your very eyes! Just kidding you, looks great and glad you're having some fun (in retirement)!
GREAT!!! Thank the Lord some folks actually use these cars. Seems like many people are afraid to even wash them for fear they may melt. And to drive them over 50 miles? God forbid, who knows what sort of terrible things might happen!
I'm going to guess that you live in a sufficiently rural area that the roads are not salted -- if I am not mistaken, Ontonagon is on the north/Superior coast of the UP? Looks like fun! - Tony
Yes I might be slightly to the left but not stupid, I don't drive her on any salted roads. Our little village is lucky to afford sand for the roads let alone salt. I must admit that we live 1/2 mi. in the woods and I maintain the road myself so taking a spin in the winter consists of a few 1/2 mi. runs to the highway and back and then cleaning the wheels. I get my kicks when I can, Since I am running my pie hole I might as well add that there is an empty ship yard and just a month ago we lost our paper mill so there is no industry left here! Good deals for any companies looking for cheap facilities and excellant work ethic. I think we are turning into a retirement community and we kind of like that coming from the Chicago area. I had the 308 in the local laborday car show and one resident came up to me and says he has a Dino stored in Greenbay that he hasn't driven in years because he lost interest. I think he meant he can no longer fit into it!! yuk Yuk Lostbowl
Fantastic shot of the car in the snow Tom, the black looks great. Must be a bit of fun to have a half mile of road to play on.
My dad always tells me that his life began when he retired back in 1984. The secret is to have something(s) that you are passionate about, and indulge in it. He's never had a dull moment since.
My brother-in-law lives in UP Michigan which, according to him, has "11 months of snow and one month of bad sledding weather." Just kidding, but not driving in the snow gives you a pretty narrow window of driving time where he is.
Tom...how do you like your 308 in comparison to the long list of cars you've owned previously? Reason I ask: I too had several very nice classics of various makes, including two '60s Vettes, over the years before buying a 330 2+2 at age 52; I'm 60 now, retired, and have an '83 308 GTS.
For some of us, only the body ages. I'm retired and still drive my 308. I wish I had more free time to work on the car. I can't see how I ever found time to go to work.
Scott, in the design department I have always felt the 308 and the XKE were and still are the supreme classic look. Why I waited so long to buy the Fcar I suppose was because of the horror stories about repairs. Thanks to this forum all my questions were answered in short order and after doing a major this past spring I can say that it is like all other cars with the exception that there is 20lbs. of stuff put in a 3lb. bag. I enjoy all the roadsters I have and even the mini (60) is a blast to drive but there is something special about the 3X8. If I could afford one I would add an Enzo to the stable but would not give up the 308 it is a blend of style and handling that is hard to describe and the ride was a pleasant surprise much smoother than any of the 60s and 70s Corvettes I have owned and certainly more reliable than the XKEs. I just started my 60th year on this planet and it is the only ride that I turn and take a last look before I shut the door. Need I say more? Zieggler, I don't know where your brother lives but I beg to differ---------- we had 13 days of summer this past November! Yuk Yuk TJ
That looks like a fantastic retirement, working on a 308, and melting snow with a mid engined rear wheel drive Ferrari! Enjoy it in good health!
Tex, I have no interest in the Dino. If anyone has I would be glad to put them in contact with the owner. If I buy another car I would have to build another storage unit or remotely store it and I'm too far gone for the investment. For me the most enjoyment is driving the 308 and I can only drive one at a time. TJ
Now, if you're REALLY bored with retirement, the next firm wide snowy downhill run you find, you could do a quick left and pull the handbrake and check that front/rear balance. When I was REAL young, a buddy of mine had a Datsun 510 and lived up in Big Bear, Ca. (Local ski area). He used to do that on a regular basis but the first time was the best. Every time I look at that center handbrake, I think of that. NO, I'm not that bored and have not done it. Uhh, no snow? I'm sure that would get the blood pumping though.
Many years ago I tried a handbrake turn on a wide, 4 lane wet road in an old MG 1100. I think I did 2 complete spins and ended up pointing the right direction purely by luck. Seemed to take about 1/2 second. I don't do it any more.
