I got this belt as a gift from a friend in Spain, however it is too large for me and I need to take off a couple of inches. Here are some pics of the belt. The first pic is the top of the belt, the other pics shows the side of the belt that faces inside.

If I put in a phillips head screwdriver into the bottom part all it will do is turn both sides at the same time.

Is there a special tool I need for this or is there a trick I just don't know about?

I figure if it is simple to do I would rather do it myself than take it somewhere to be done.

that appears to be a rivet type fastner. You'll need to cut the cloth part of the belt, "pop the head" off the rivet, then insert the shorter part of the belt into the leather, and re-rivet it. A rivet tool can be purchased at any hardware store, but then you'll need to stitch up the leather part of it also. It'd probably be easier just to bring it to a tailor or alterations place and have them do it. Also, you could bring it to any leather work shop and they could do it in minutes...maybe even an upholstery shop would do it for a few bucks.

    p.s.

It may be easier to shorten from the other side of the belt. what's that look like?

looks to me like the type of belt that is supposed to be long. Just watch mtv for a few minutes and I am sure you'll see them. The excess hangs down their pants, out the bottom of their shirts.

Here is the pic of the other side of the belt, as you can see, it has metal holes in it for the fork of the belt to slip into, so it is not meant to hang down.

I'd cut that end........the one with the holes. Cut it shorter and then just restitch the leather back on......much easier than dealing with the rivet.

AHA! I fixed it. I was able to pop the rivet, cut, and slam the rivet back together with an empty bottle of Patron(no hammer to be found, had to improvise).

    Thanks for the help guys!

Actually, no! Ya bastard! It was so big that I couldn't even get it to stay on with the first hole.

No need now compadre, but guess where I am heading to right now???

You guessed it, the GOLF COURSE! And tomorrow I might be going over to the new TPC of Louisiana to watch the first round of the annual tour event here.

And yes, this belt will help me shoot a great round of golf today just to spite you!

One of the leather shops may be able to do it for you. They will probably have the tools to take it apart and put it back together.

If the first hole is too loose, you can always try the second hole, usually a good bit tighter.
