I am curious, most manufacturers do happen to test and run official numbers and recently most sports coupes and sedans have been doing this. Then how come ferrari doesnt want to post those times, just to have a benchmark? Or is it that they are afraid of something?

as much as i love ferrari, my guess is
    A. not reveal how well there cars are performing i.e giving the other manufacturers a goal to shoot for. I think this was probably more the case in the past but no longer
    B. So as not to reveal really how close the competition is. for example I may be mistake here but the carrera GT is supposedly faster around the ring than the Enzo.
    C. oficial testing is done at fiorano

There is only one test that holds ground.

Same track, same layout, same driver.

There is a british TV magazine that does that. The Enzo won hands down and it was said that this benchmark will be on the board for quite some time.

Of course there will always be new challengers. Some will beat this benchmark one day. None will look as good doing it though (my guess).

Please! a one shot go at a 1 minute track is no way to determine performance! Ferrari is much to scared to test against the likes of Porsche at the Nurburgring....There have been plenty of people who have driven their Ferraris on the ring, but since we all know posers don't make very good racers...I'm sure they are much to embarrased to post lap times!
ouch! Flamers do it behind your back.....

PS...The Zonda F kicked the Enzo's arse around the track!

Here's another thing Ferrari doesn't do: advertise. Different manufacturers have different approaches to the market. I think that Ferrari's MO is to maintain a dignified presence that allows the cars to speak for themselves rather than prattling on about numbers. Porsche portrays itself as the weekday professional/weekend sportsman car. Lambo's image is more of the attention-seeking, balls to the wall type. And so on. The bottom line is, all these sports car companies make some damn-fast cars, as do countless after-market folks. Those in the know realize that numbers change from test to test and are anything but definite. And once you get into 4 seconds and under 0-60 times, your a$$ ain't gonna be able to tell the difference anyhow.

What makes you think it's a one-time thing? Naturally they won't show you every lap of a morning of hotlaps because that would take too long and just be plain stupid. Obviously, they just show you the fastest one.

nope....its all in what you like. Times really don't matter to much. 90% won't even see a track, and the ones that do will more then likely have some tuning done(tires only even).

Yeah, I remember a few years ago guys were getting into the usual hissy fits over 0-60 times, and tenths of seconds. And the funny thing is, how many of us could tell the difference between 4.7 vs 5.3? Or 4.2 vs 5.0? You know what I mean? And when companies post times that look suspiciously low, nobody believes them. If they look too high, they get knocked for being too slow. And all the magazines come up with different test times anyway. Seems like, these days, you hear a lot of references to "the low 4's" or "the high 3's", rather than decimal points.

Ahh Yes, comment of the day.

Yeah Im sure they are soo scared  They think of all the internet warriors like you and think "OEH NOES!! our cars wont sell if we post these times!!"

Anyway most German magazines dont even reconise that Radical have the fastest production car lap period. I wouldnt get too excited over lap times on the ring as even the supposed "official" times are never in street spec. Even Nissans GTR's magic time back in the 90's is known to have been a modded car.

I would still love to have a drive on the track and let Sebrine take me for a run. But unless we have the same driver "ie: the stig on topgear for example" for all cars and they are all tested on the same dayish the times are more for internet warriors to get exicted over.

Nuff said. While I'm still skeptical of the carerra gt being faster than an enzo (the driving was done by the porsche test driver so there's a little bias there), Ferrari also has a big ego and probably doesn't want to see some of their cars losing to cheaper alternatives. At the same time they also don't need any more publicity since the heritage and reputation speak for themselves.

It doesn't matter when all of your cars are sold before they are built, no other manufacturer can match that, I don't think.
