I am speechless. A friend of mine in Lugano, a Porsche owner for many years, was lured last year into Ferrari ownership when he bought a beautiful 550 Maranello which he adored. Unfortunately his wife hates Ferraris so much that for 1 year she always refused to even look at the car, and never set foot inside it! My friend had to drive a Mini Cooper while the Maranello mostly spent its time in the garage, until last month he gave up, sold the Ferrari and bought the Porsche which his wife "loves".

Man, I don't personally know if I'd have chosen the wife or the car... how can anyone "hate" Ferraris to such an unreasonable and illogical point? :(

Women. . . need I say more? On a side note, I have an 89 Maserati 228 Biturbo sitting in the garage, has 51k miles on it, and is in extremely good condition. I cant begin to tell you how many girlfriends I've lost because of that car.

Oh well, I feel that if any woman makes me chose between her and my cars, I wont hesitate to show her the door. Any person who is supposed to be your wife/ long term girlfriend should respect your hobbies and maybe try to understand the mystique behind our passion. After all, it is a crime (at least in my experience) to even inquire as to why they feel the need to shop so damn much.

    Just my opinion

The Mini is WAAAAAAY COOLER than the Maranello. If I had the choice on some nice curvy roads - I would take the Cooper. I love this car. It's more fun than any Ferrari I've ever driven.

You have to understand how certain snobbish attitudes are ingrained in certain parts of the italian/swiss "elite" society. I know because I grew up in Milan, and I used to know several people like that.

I knew VERY rich girls who'd been raised in an environment made exclusively of classical education, Scala Theatre concerts, carefully selected friends, upper-class dinner parties and family holidays in Portofino. These people's attitude towards any kind of red blooded entertainment such as "cars" was always seen as very "plebeian", a kind of thing that an enriched plumber might do but certainly not the thing for their exclusive urban elite...

In this sense I can understand what happened - this guy's wife comes from this posh, stubbornly snobbish background where "Ferraris" are considered as rough entertainment for the uncultured nouveau-riche. It's difficult to change this kind of mindset, if it's ingrained from childhood.

Sad, but that's what a lot of people are like between Milan and Lugano. It's the reason why in this area of Europe Porsches and BMW M-cars outsell Italian masterpieces like Ferraris and Maseratis by about 20 to 1...

Interesting! You know, I was staying with a Swiss friend and we visited his relatives in Milan. They were doing ok with 2 adjacent luxury apartments in downtown and a condo near San Remo my friend and I subsequently spent a week at.

But when I told his aunt that I really wanted to go to Maranello and see the Ferrari factory, she replied, "oh, Ferraris, those are *stupid* cars." Not something I expected to hear from a rich elderly Italian lady in urban Milan! But, then she gave me a red and gold official Ferrari Pen that her (30yr old, living at home, Communist, rock band member) son had gotten as a gift and didn't want because it represented "bourgeois."

I went to Maranello and was very happy. :)

Only Ferraristi feel superior to others.
The other makes (Lamborghini and Porsche. etc) don't care and let everybody enjoy whatever he likes.
