This is EXACTLY the kind of snobbish / faux-cultural attitude that is SO common amongst the northern Italian (and Swiss-Italian) urban elites. It is one of the reasons why I'm very happy to be living far away from Milan and from the hypocritical judgement of inane people like that. As much as I love Milan for its art, food and cultural life, I couldn't accept to live in an environment where you constantly feel like you're being negatively judged by people who feel so superior and so "above" such vulgar entertainment such as cars... :(

    These attitudes are crap.

Italy is 99 % crap, Milan is dull, and the same is happening in Switzerland.
People should watch the states or these kind of places. People let you do/drive/wear what you like, and nobody cares or makes a statement out of it.
And sorry, but i prefer a billion times spending a week-end in New york than in any EURO-City.
Also, this is faux-snobism. They want to play the big guys but in the end are plain dumbasses. Any car (F-Car, Lambo, Porsche) is cool, if they have been made to be really enjoyed by their driver, as a work of rolling art, not just as a mean of transportation, like BMs, Merc etc.
I just love the F-car, it's by far the best car i ever had. And i faced the same troubles quite some time ago when i swapped the 993 c4 cab for a Maser Spyder, as my girlfriend hated the car.
Lastly, these boring snobs' aren't into litterature as well, nor art (unless it's ****ty modern art nobody ever heard of), nor any cultural thing (and not into science either...). So, to sum it up, they spend their time watching what is a cool statement, while they are anything but cool (ending up wearing the same ****, going to the same extra-****ty-places that play the understated-euro-****ty-chic etc)

Lastly, to Mr Mini-man, you're definitly right, if you know the road, nobody can follow you, even in an Enzo (but does he want to anyway ?), i had the experience with my first car (205 CTi), a well driven Quattro Sport (SWB) could overtake all cars but mine on a twisty road, and he tried a couple of times.

But if you think it's important either
    a. You go drive laps around Monza and show Schumi who's the king
    b. You missed the point. These cars have a soul.

    Cheers.

Looks like this thread hit a nerve. Glad to hear some heated opinions for a change in the Euro section.

I have nothing against Pcars, but every second car in Switzerland is a Porsche, and for that they lose that special something IMO.

Simon, today I just got the invitation for one of those posh "apero evenings" offered in Milan's Marriot Hotel by a young and rising Milanese lawyer who's "applied to become a member" of one of these ultra-snob associations that are rife amongst the urban elites. I'd just love to turn up with you, Wolfgang, Trevi & all the rest of the gang to liven things up a bit :) :) :)

(Before you ask, I get the invitations through a friend of mine who is very funny and sarcastic about it all, but has always been part of such "high flying" society since he was a student)

Only every 2nd car? It's more in the UK!!

Porsches are really cool cars (i.e. the first time I ever drove at over 250 km/h was in a P-car :D) but they have "cheapened" the brand with the Boxter and IMHO they have become commuters as opposed to fun cars for enthusiasts. And that's not meant to sound elitist – I think all the noble brands are moving in that direction. It’s just market economics.

But the enthusiast’s loss is the sales representative’s gain! ;)

    Cheers, MARK
