How Difficult Is It? (Remove Handles and Fuel Cap)

    Hi,

    I recently bought a Speciale, and will post a full thread on it soon.

    The previous (first) owner had optioned the car in every possible carbon option, and also ordered the non carbon variants which all came with the car in Ferrari boxes. He also ordered further carbon parts that were not available on the configurator at the time such as Carbon Door Handles, Carbon Fuel Cap, Carbon Mirrors, etc.

    I want to put the original door handles and fuel cap back to the red parts.

    My car is getting detailed by a Detailer & PPF supplier this week.

    How difficult is it to remove the door handles and fuel cap? I am thinking of getting the detailed / PPF installer that do it.

    I’d get the dealer to do it when you next get it serviced. There’s no rush, and all the detailers I have ever worked with are great at their craft, but they do not have the experience necessary to take these cars apart.

    The exterior handle flaps are held in with an Allen screw visible when handle is lifted slightly looking under it. Be very careful as apparently it is easy to strip.

    Also tape up the handle and door all around this area. If your driver slips you will be repainting a car door.

    Thank you - much appreciated.

    Also, I want to swap out the side shields from carbon to the original yellow shields.

    What are they usually held in place with? Maybe this is one job I can do myself. I’m finding it hard to look at the carbon shields :)

    Fairly difficult to remove. Have to get to underside by removing wheels and fender liners, remove 3 nuts off the stems that hold them on and deal then with 3M trim adhesive gluing them on. Some risk to paint damage and possibly unusable shields after removal. The carbon shields were a fairly expensive optional spec on the car. Quite an undertaking for sure. Have them professionally removed if you are that serious about changing them.
