It seems impossible to do with the engine cover on. I removed the oil cooler, Breather and hoses but cant seem to get enough clearance or even clear access. Any ideas?

Maybe better access thru the rear wheel opening after removing the inner liner?

Did that first Steve..even removed Oil cooler, main coolant connecting hose (rubber), misc other stuff.. Right now I'm removing the front distributor cap which MAY give access for a 1/4" socket and short extension.. Anyway, thanks for replying Steve. If you come up with any other suggestions please let me know. If I have any luck I'll be sure to post it.

ISTR the coolant down pipe is in the way :(

Have you tested it & got an open circuit or something?

Well kiddies, after removing the front distributor cap the sensor nuts were indeed accessable. Of course it took a wierd combination of 1/4" mini extension, short 8mm socket and an el-cheapo ratcheting wrench. The big problem is restricted space between the cam housing and block. Anyway, it can be done..you just have to assemble the right combination of hardware...after removing a lot of stuff. The REAL challenge will be getting the nuts back onto the studs! Oh..and the replacement Marelli sensor's mounting holes are closer together than original..you'll need to slot them both about 4mm toward center.

Iain, I was able to get behind he coolant down pipe using the method described above. Oh..and the reason for replacement was due to my not noticing it's wire pinched between the clutch housing and block before tightening fasteners...after replacing the clutch. You can bet I'm never going to overlook that little rascal again...

    Ciao
