I have an '04 Gallardo with the original battery. I thinking it may be time to install a new fresh battery. How difficult is it to replace the battery on the Gallardos? I know the trunk tub must come out. Is there anything tricky to this or should I leave it to the dealer when the car is in for it's next service?

I started digging around in mine a few months ago to see what would be involved and it looks like everything pops out easily; you could swap out the stock battery for a light weight one too at the same time, which the dealer may not carry, save 20 pounds.

Do not put an Optima battery in your Gallardo, they are pure junk.

In your front bonnet, on the back wall is what looks like a door, panel or a cover, on either side of the panel you will see 2 black plastic caps, with a line on them...take a flat head screw driver, and open those black plastic caps, the door or panel will open, in there is the battery, and you can change it out easily...

I don't think so. The battery will not fit through the access panel.

I just changed mine. You have to pull out the truck liner for lack of a better description. It is the fiberglass bucket that forms the trunk. The sequence is to first pull the rubber weatherstrip that is one piece and goes all around the liner and forms a seal to the body and trunk lid. Next, there are about 6-8 allen heads that are easily removed. The liner is removed from there and you gain access to the battery. When you put it back together the only parts that takes some patience is putting the weatherstrip back in. Tighten the bolt after you have the weatherstrip on. The total job took <1 hour being very careful.

NAPA sells a battery that fits with higher CCA for around $100. I can't remember the product code but if you take yours down they should be able to match. The factory one is around $300.

Also high on the "pain" list is removing the CD changer on the '06 and later models. I never put it back in.
