So, I'm thinking that in a few years, when a new Zonda model is available and ready for the US, that I'll want one. I'm thinking that this will be the last high-end car I would ever buy/need. For me, the Zonda F is the superlative of exotic cars and if the new one holds true, I'd probably not buy anything else for a very long time. I'm guessing that if the car is going to be sold in the US, it will carry the same relative price tag, give or take $10-20K, as most cars do.

So my question is, how hard was it to get a Zonda? I know it was very limited, but I don't imagine the demand was as high for a high 6 figure car that isn't a major marque. Maybe I'm wrong though.

As far as market goes, i don't think any of them have sold for under what someone paid for. So in other words they hold their value because they are so rare. Where i remember hearing that i ahve no idea, but it was probably on here. That said, i know clubsportxx?? and a few other guys really know a lot about the car and it's market maybe they will chime in.

As far as market price... its a supply and demand issue... there is almost ZERO supply... and there is certainly a demand if there was one for sale...

I do believe that they are only available with show and display permits limiting the mileage to 5k per year. I know its on DOTs website under show and display vehicle... but I don't know if that is "ONLY" or if it can be registered regularly.

From a price perspective I thought I saw on Super Cars by Martin Brundle that they were $600k-ish... I'll watch it again and see if it says.

The problem with the federal gov't is that if the car you are looking at is not on the DOT list then you will have to be the first person to bring it in and the level of red tape to do that is staggering, not to mention the feds are NEVER, EVER in a hurry! It would probably take several years for an individual to bring one in as a full EPA/DOT machine (I don't know if this has yet been done or not, I have not looked at the web site in YEARS, so it may be on the ok to import list by now) with unlimited mileage and full registration for the car.

If the car is on the show/display list (also almost impossible to get a car on...I tried it once!) the good thing is you won't have to do any DOT work to the car (lights, bumpers, etc). EPA does still apply (unless they have fixed that loop hole in the last 7 years or so...I know they were working on it because it was stupid to let the car in w/o DOT but then have to EPA the thing!) and can be a real PITA too...

Also on show/display, you have to be open to inspections whenever they want to come check out your car. I suspect most of the time those cars are never checked. You are limited on miles (which is what they would be looking at, along w/ EPA if applicable still) and I was under the impression that mileage was 2500 not 5000, but again that might have changed since I brought my car in and was looking in to that. The other issue is that with show/display that is really the ONLY time the car should be on the road is when going to/from a show/display. Again I doubt anyone is going to give you to hard a time about it, but they COULD impound your $500k+ car if they wanted to for violating the law...that would SUCK BAD! You would probably have to pay a fine and then ship the car out of the country.

    YMMV!

Well, I know that the current models are not importable, but they next model, the Zonda replacement, is supposed to be compliant and they will be selling them in the US. I remembered hearing that the price was about $650K when they first debuted. If the next one is the same, that should be within my reach by the time they come to the states.

    All true... and good post.

however, as i said in my first post the car is on the show and display list and if the car is on the show and display list with DOT it means that the first guy has ALREADY gone through the hell to make it legit. So, you can bring in a Zonda. There is one here locally. They are available to be brought in with relative ease and there are, last I heard, 7 in the states

Well, I'm not looking to buy a euro one and bring it here because I'll get raped on the exchange rate. Once Pagani starts selling here, which is the plan with their next model, we should see more relative pricing.

There is a well known Zonda here in Scottsdale that is driven quite regularly. The owner acquired it from Wyclef.

dont forget... he is a small manufacturer and he can't afford to take hits for the american market. His pricing will be very likely to be close in line with what he is charging in euros... just converted to USD
