How do 'Business Solicitors' work?

How do 'Business Solicitors' work, if that is even a name for them. I've gotten stopped by numerous times by people claiming I can make thousands doing what they're doing. But what makes them so devoted and dedicated enough to preach about their business opportunities and how much it has worked for them? It's ridiculous though because I fall for their traps and feel like an idiot at the end. For example, I spoke to a woman a few months ago about just school stuff and all of sudden we start rambling off about businesses and success. She starts telling me that she knows some electrical engineers and they work for her business (Which i think is a total fabrication to get me interested because of my major). She said that her business is successful and that perhaps me and her business partner can meet up. So im there thinking about how awesome it would be to meet these marvaleous so-called "CEOS" of a successful business so I tell her I would be interested in an opportunity and give her my phone number. Long story short, she calls me a week later and tells me if im ready to meet up and I tell her yes and she tells me she has a meeting at a hotel reception hall and I was like uhhhh red flag, SCAM! About every solicitor who comes up to me, 90% of them have the same ending about meeting up in some large hall with other clueless believers of their bullcrap!

Next time, I'm gonna flick them off before they waste my time. With that said, how do they make their money? What makes them so devoted. Most of them aren't even dressed nice like they're successful themselves.
