Michael flew into the Aus GP. He was holidaying in the Asia from what i understand, flew into the Gold Coast in Queensland on the monday before for the Great Mick Doohan's wedding, for which he just flew into the airport, and hopped on Mick's helicopter. Stayed up there 2 nights and then flew his bizjet down to Melbourne. He drove a Masser QP from the track to his hotel, and Corrina was in the car. I have pics of him nearly running me over when he left the track.. Massa also had a QP Kimi left in a Merc, but wasnt driving.. Jenson Button left in a Honda Accord Euro. Flavio left in a top of the range Renault. Ralf left in a Lexus 4WD Montoya, Webber, Alonso walked past us Jackie Stewart left in a RBS van Pretty much all i can remember at this point. Have pics/video of most of the encounters Here are some pics of some F1 related Aircraft, i will list their description below 1) Schumacher's Jet in Melbourne last week 2) Ralf Schumacher's Jet 3) Ralf piloting it 4) Ruben's private Jet 5) BMW Team private jet 6) Red Bull Torro Rosso private Jet Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I was gonna say: looks like a golden opportunity for someone to find out how the teams are getting to and from North America, and shoot some pics.

I found it very interesting as to locations where the above mentioned F1 owner's aircraft according to the photo identification are registered. MS = Switzerland (no surprise) Ralf = one of several possibilties = Montserrat, Falkland Islands, Anguilla or BVI Rubens = Switzerland BMW = US Red Bull = Thailand Ron Dennis and Flavio Briatore - UK Carol
It depends on the races. When its say Australia or USA. Its afew plane loads of equipment(it usually makes the news here and u see them unloading the plane). The drivers n that come depending on what they have. Usually most of the team are on normal 747's. Schumie/DC and afew others have private jets soo they use those. Then from hotel to racetrack they are either driven to the track or they drive. For example when Ralf was driving for Williams he was given an X5 in Melb and he drove to the track(with camera crew). Tho alot are driven to the track usually in luxo cars like Jags/Masers/Mercs etc and if u at the track early enough(say 7-8am) u can see them get unloaded at the pitgates and if you are lucky get a autograph. When it comes to local European races they use trucks to haul all the stuff around usually 2-3 semitrailers. Again the drivers that have them take private jets and then take helicopters rides to the track. The other drivers just go with the team in the motorhomes.
Once bumped into DC and following at Nice Airport in 1996. He was in the presence of a very skinny chick and a very skinny guy that carried his bags. DC HATES "fat people"...
Pretty much all the teams will travel via Economy. Only senior engineers/management will get upgrade to business class-but I once went to a test in Jerez and Ross Brawn was behind me in economy. Team principals travel via private planes as is easier for them to get back to the UK/France/Italy/Switzeland after the race. Drivers tend to have a personal plane too, but many of them fly with the rest of us when it comes to tests in Europe and they also have to go Avis and the like to pick up there hire car like I did. BA/Easyjet/Iberia and some times Ryan Air are the preffered carriers when I was testing with McLaren in Europe. All flyaway races cargo and race equipment are packed away in "Igloos" which double up as portable workshops for the mechanics/engineers. These are then delivered to Stansted normally where all the teams drop them off to be flown out in a massive cargo plane which "Bernie's company" then fly out. Non essential equipment is shipped out months before a long haul fly away-such as Australia. Costs are MASSIVE for sending out equipment. All European events (tests/races) the trucks drive their. Drivers tend to stay in there motorhomes on a race weekend. Some do stay at the hotels. Ron's plane is very very nice, seen and been in it-though not flown in it.
While on the topic, i just saw this pic. Does Renault really need to take 5 transport rigs to testing? Image Unavailable, Please Login
