I went to change my rear license plate which was attached to the body with sheet metal screws. the screws appeared to be secured to the body by means of some type of nuts immediately on the other side of the body. When I unscrewed the plate the nuts appear to have fallen down and are no longer in reach of the screws.
I proceeded to peel back the carpeting and came across a piece of curved fiberglass which seemed to be the only thing preventing me from gaining access to the area behind the license plate...can someone please describe how I remove this?

    Thanks in advance

    Scott

none of my early 308 had any fiberglass behind the carpet. i would try to crap a flexable magnet towards the bottom and see if you can fish the nuts out. not sure if my cars were missing this piece or the early cars dont have it.

i was trying to find a 11mm nut in my pile to put my tag on my new purchase today... i know how it is to have to fight the carpet. :)

Go to an auto parts store such as NAPA, Auto Zone etc., and purchase a set of nylon inserts that mount in the holes for the license plate bolts.

They just snap into the holes in the body, and the bolts to hold the plate thread into them.

It would help if we knew what year it was. Regardless, on my '78 there is a glass panel there also. I figured out that it is basically a "tension" fit. It is an L shaped piece and if you pull forward (away from you if you are standing behind the trunk) on the bottom section it should pull out. A little wiggling and the whole section, carpet and all will come out. Now that I think about it though I think you have to pull the thick glass board from the floor out first.

I hear that's how prisoners smuggle in tools to work on their Ferraris behind bars...

It is a '79 308 and the fiberglass panel which I am trying to remove is L shaped. I tried to snap it out but it appears that it may be restrained at the left/right side by two blocks on either side?

    Interesting!?
Obviously someone left out the screws when they put mine back together. I was able to just take it all apart without any tools at all.
