    i think i may have found the right car after much searching, but now i need to verify its history. the owner has agreed to have the car inspected by the local dealer. but i would like to know about the whole history of the car. is there any way to run the vin number through some kind of database search and get that info?

    You might be able to give the VIN to an insurance company and they can tell you if it been a write-off or not. But as far as history, like carfax, I don't think thats possible.

    The best way is normally to speak to the dealer who has done the services. The network in Switzerland is quite small so cars are known amongst dealers.
