How do I establish the validity of a vin number?

    I have been waiting for my 458 spider for a very long time, and I have been given excuse after excuse, as delivery slipped from a promised March to April to May to June and now supposedly for July.

    I have been given a vin number, but there is radio silence on a confirmed delivery date and I am getting very concerned that once again this is not going to happen.

    How do I go about confirming if the vin number is even for real and the status of this car?

    I would appreciate any advise - thank you.

    Are you buying from a Authorized Ferrari Dealer? If you are, it is a simple matter of a communication between the dealer and factory. If not, maybe someone else has dealt with whomever you are supposedly buying the car from and can help. Best

    I remember that my Speciale, delivered February, has a lower VIN than the car my dealer received in January. I don't know what they are doing with the cars in the meantime, maybe they have to correct the painting or something else was not ok...
    But VIN itself and delivery do not correspond all the time...
    By the way - I was promised delivery before christmas, then it changed to mid January, then beginning of March and delivery was mid February ;)
