I'd like to remove my left hand radiator air scoop...the plastic body piece that sits under the door...part number: 64101210 Anyone know what's involved in removing this....i know the sill plate has to come off to reveal some screws but are there any other screws or bolts that have to be removed? I scraped the part going over a speed bump...want to take it to the body shop for a proper paint.
you need to undo 2 nuts inside the fender. (and of course the wheel lining to get there). One nut you can reach easily, and for the other it is best accessed when the radiator is removed first...and the studs are easily broken off because of rust... So not really as easy as it may seem. If not really necessary, leave it on. the good news is that the whole thing is glassfibre, so repair is easy.
Thanks Robbe but.... Are you sure there are 2 nuts inside the fender? From photos i can only see 1 that is easy to get to with the radiator in place....cannot see another?
For sure 2 nuts inside the fender, no way to reach the 2nd one without undoing the radiator, I'm afraid. Then some more screws on top the part, some on the bottom and one single one which can be reached from the front wheel arch. Easy remove except the one behind the radiator....
Thanks guys. Gonna have to have it painted whilst on the car Cannot get to that second bolt behind the radiator.
Lotusk, I have a '96 355 Spider but I believe all 355s should be the same. If you reach inside the small air opening under the doors, back about 8-10" or so inside the black fiberglass louver in the center of the outside edge is a removable rubber plug about an inch in diameter. Removing it gives access to the otherwise inaccessible nut. You should not have to remove the radiator to get to it.
Yep thanks jerry...i found the plug...but i don't fancy trying to get that nut off! I bet it's stuck fast! Gonna have the piece painted in situ Good to know though
