I just got my boot kit from allferrariparts.com. But the bands they supplied do not look familiar to me and I have no tool I can think of to snug these up well. Does anyone know how best to tighten this style band? It appears I can only use my hands which does not seem good enough.

    Thanks,
    Bob R.

IIRC, you put that band around the neck of the boot, and snap it into the tightest notch that you can. Then you squeeze the opposing sides of the bump-out with a nipper or similar tool to get it good and tight. The nipper needs to be one of those with parallel jaws.

These are one-time use only. You can swap them out for bands that have a screw adjustment if you don't like these. Since you should be doing the job on the bench, it should not be a big problem to get the nippers onto the bump and give it a good squeeze.

Hope I described that process sufficiently clearly.

I totally understand now Steve! Thanks very much for the insight/clarification. It so happens I have a tool that may work. As a building contractor, I have a tile nipper which looks like it will crimp the band just right (photo). And yes, I will be doing this on my bench top.

BTW - it's been over a year since I shipped it out - how has your custom "inverted" Plate Clip been working out?

I'm in the Bay Area for the weekend and can't get to the tool you need... I'd be real careful using the nippers unless they are real dull. The tool you need has a 3 part jaw. One has a lift finger that holds up the bridge and the other two squeeze the ends in as your nipper would. Most auto parts stores carry the tool.

I understand your point. Thanks for the heads up. My nippers do not close tight, as is the requirement for ceramic tiles. But, they are sharp edged. I'll look into this at my local auto store then. I found this one on line which is probably the correct tool.
