It's been a real surprise to me that young kids and teenagers have noticed my car so much, considering that it is 40 years old and very conservatively styled. Middle aged guys (40 to 60 yrs) come up and talk or give thumbs up - no surprise. Most surprising - women. They don't notice it as often as males but when they do, they let you know, either consciously or unconsciously. I was over at our new house which is nearing completion and was backing out of the carport into the alley and a female neighbor my age, fiftyish, walked up and said "The exhaust sound of your car is the coolest thing I've ever heard! You've got to take my husband and me for a ride after you move in." I will be glad to take them for a ride, of course.

A couple of days ago a young (30,maybe), very good looking woman in an expensive new SUV turned left in front of me at a 4way, spotted my car, and turned her head near 180 degrees, mouth hanging open, eyes popped, as she passed by - could have easily had an accident before she got her eyes back on the road.

I always have experienced positive responses with 2 exceptions. I go to cruise-ins, drive the highway and country back roads and always get a "thumbs up". People of all walks of life ask if it's real, take pictures, I even invite them to sit in it.
The 2 exceptions: FCA/FOC events ("park in the back please" (308 GT4)). I was also called into my manager's (indirect report) office were I was informed that it was "inappropriate for a low level employee to drive a car like that in to work". I told him that it was none of his business among other things and he spend the next few years trying to get me fired. Needless to say I work at an old guard corp where hierarcy, politics and self promotion are the name of the game (and I gladly don't fit in). GT4 owners are rebels!

Here's a different approach: Watch the look you get when you ask a rabid Porsche driver if his new 80k. 911 is "one of dem new Mazda's" ???

Then add the "Zoom, Zoom, Zoom" song and make sure you are in gear with the clutch foot at ready.

Miami is a great town to have a Ferrari in, specifically South Beach. She turns the heads of a lot of young ladies :) 1 day I parked her on Ocean dr and I was unlocking the door I saw a 20 something young lady looking at the 512 & I and saying "Oh Yeah" :) Too bad I had to go meet the GF, well next time, Spring break is coming soon

I have had mostly positive reactions from the people around my city. But than again there are a lot of Ferrari's in Southern Orange County. The biggest problems are the SUV's that don't see you in their mirrors and the guy with his baseball cap on backwards in the Mustang GT's that want to race you. But the best is getting the thumbs up from Children.

A year ago I went to a local track for some lapping with my 355 B and my best friend with his brand new 996 coupe.

At this particular race coarse there were two tracks and on that day one of the tracks was being used by pro go-cart racing teams.

My buddy and I decieded to go over and watch one of the races before we went out lapping at the other track. There were a least 350 kids watching the go-cart race.

Well...when the kids saw my 355 at least a hundred of them ran out to look at the car with camera's in hand. The strange part was watching my buddy's face as all these kids ran right by his car without even looking twice!!

My buddy turned to me and asked me if I just saw what he did and then he joked to the kids and asked them if they wanted to take pictures of his "new Porsche"? Just then this 6 year old kid turns to him and says, "hey mister, you should know better then to park your car next to a F e r r a r i!! The kid then asked him to take his camera and take a picture of the him and his younger brother with my Ferrari!! :) :)

loungedog, that is too funny. I had something similar happen to me and my buddy. He had just bought his C5 and we went out for a little spin. Him in his new Vett and me in the Ferrari. Anyway we pulled up to the little resaurant and all the people were staring at my 13 year old 348, and not his brand spanking new Vett. LOL. I tried to make him feel better by telling him that his was a bit quicker than mine, he replied "yeah but yours still gets the looks"

Childrens' reactions are the best - I have given 50+ rides around the block or up and down the hwy to intersted children and adults. When I was younger, my father's friend did it for me and now its my turn. Its very gratifying :)

My TR is dark green and my 355 Spider is TDF blue, so many guys, and most women, in the NY area have no clue as to what they are. I've gotten, "is that a Mustang" more times than I can count from women who see the cavallino, and I just laugh to myself. I find that the cars attract guys' attention like mad, but rarely women - Good thing I didn't buy them to attract women.

I drove the TR to a friends backyard BBQ party in CT and parked it in his driveway. About 30+ people had to walk around the car to get to the backyard and no one noticed it until the end of the party when the last guy to arrive said, "OK, so who's got the Ferrari?"

Funny to read everyones' stories, bc I find reactions to be a bit different in the NY area.

"That kid was right." He said as we drove through the night from Coney Island towards the city in my 308 with the lights from the unmarked Police car Jason was escorting us along with throwing red flashes across our dash.
" I was SOL, dead, gone, fineato, when slowly I heard the sound of Puff opening up from the cargo bay of that C130 and starting to puke a million rounds a minute into the jungle floor. Maybe, maybe...Then came the Heuy and the door gunner laying down 50 cal in short bursts. That's what told me, the short bursts...He wasn't panicing. I was going home. As he pulled me off the skid and we lifted off I noticed a sticker on his helmut, a Black Horse, like the one on the front of your car. As we flew back he told me that someday he was going to ride in a Ferrari and I would too... He was half right."
He took a swig, looked at me and said "Better Days."

I guess I've been around this Fcar thing for long enough to have a few stories....

Driving from the upper P of Michigan to AZ in a TR...I had 2 guys in Wyoming want to hear the engine...smell the interior...and buy me lunch! I wrote a story about the trip that appeared in PH #112. The best part of that trip was while stoped at Mt Rushmore I parked in an empty lot that was extra far from the crowds and dents. When I returned...there was a crowd around the car and one of the guys that was there stated, "Those presidents are gonna be there for a while....this Ferrari won't be"!

I have one of the 1st 348's (17th made)...and when it first came out nobody knew what it was and lots of older folks would ask if it was the 'new mustang'...I had a small town gent come up to the car when I was getting out and he was just sort of standing and staring with his mouth open...and I asked him what was up....and he states, "I used to maiyke these"....with his best drawl. I said..."oh, really...so you are Italian and used to work at the Ferrari factory? His next 'word' was "huh?....you mean that this thing is real?....naw it ain't". I then proceeded to argue with him for 5 minutes about the authenticity of the car....I finally gave in and he proclaimed..."see...ya can't pull one over on me....I used to maiyke these".

Finally....in the land of bubbba...I was in a gas station in an F40...and of course...I hear...."Nice Fiero! That's the best kit I've seen yet". I then jestured for him to look in the engine bay. His jaw just dropped and I got in and pulled away.....with full boost of course!

    Cheers....Dino

The funniest thing I ever encountered after having the car up to this moment was from my seven years old daughter who told my wife:

    I have a black P-Turbo and a red 355-S.

Here in the Miami area the F Car seems to get a lot of attention....almost to the point where it's annoying (thought I would never say that).

About two weeks ago my girlfreind and I were on our way to South Beach with the top down. Someone starts honking, we turn our heads to the left and a bunch of guys (college students / tourists?) are hanging out the window with a camera to take a pix. Stuff like that never happens in the P car.

Agree with the other posts...pet peeve ...while driving on the freeway people like to check out the car while matching your speed right in your BLIND SPOT! Every kid with a mustang / camero wants to run it from a light...yesterday it was a Ford Lighting..or whatever it is with the supercharger....you could hear the engine whine while he was reving it at the light... geez, give me a break.

Then there are the people who pretend not to be looking, as if there is some satisfaction in not giving you their approval.

At the end of the day I'll get into my truck, with trialer hitch hanging, fishing poles in the back and go for a drive with a sense of comfort from the anonymity... or maybe I was born to be a red neck.
    :)

    Two quickies.

I was driving home from a track day at Pocono with my 14 yr old son and it was starting to get dark. I was cruising along at 90 - 100 mph through PA and saw brief flash from behind sort of like lightning but no sound. A couple seconds later it happens again. It's a kid in a Subaru WRX leaning his whole body out the drivers window and taking pictures. He gives us a thumbs up. My son says "show him what we've got" I banged down two gears and nailed it. Got up to about 160 pretty quickly on a nice open and uncrowded stretch of highway. The WRX became a speck in my mirrors. A couple minutes later he's back flashing pics and now really animated with his body again hanging halfway out of the car as he's driving. Huge smile on his face. He must have taken about 15 pics.

I was heading to my local Sunoco for a fill-up, driving through local suburban roads. A Mercedes comming the other direction gets pretty heavily on the brakes as we pass and I see it do a U-Turn in my mirror. It is now behind me. It's driven by a girl in her 20's. As I make a few turns she stays right behind me. I pull into the gas station & she also pulls in. She says "I hope I didn't spook you, I'm not a stalker or anything, I just LOVE these cars". We chatted as I was filling up, turns out she is friends with Cort Wagner and has seen him drive the 360 GT in Grand Am.

I havent had any bad experiences yet, either with my 360, or previously with my 246 Dino or Lamborghini Miura.

Besides, the usual gals flashing their breasts, the best was when going to Verell's (another fchat member) home. Stopped at a gas station to ask for directions and two male teens came running out of the gas station building, got on their knees, and starting bowing to the car!

Actually its Prancing Horse # 147 page 6 :) Thanks for giving the Newsflash , working on getting into FORZA this year too. Cavallino has some political problems with my race car so I cant take it there & they wont publish it, for now. Maybe I can sort those out over time

So has an1 asked you where you rented your Ferrari & how much it costs per day to rent ? :) I've gotten that a few times

They rent Ferraris? Geez, maybe I should list my TR... pay for that next major. :)

The TR causes a real commotion almost everywhere (here in the land that time forgot) - usually in front of my house if I park it in the driveway. People stop and ask if they can take pictures of themselves standing next to it.

    - and half of the ricers want to race. Like thats' going to happen...

But hey, no females have flashed for it! At least not yet. :)

My Testarossa is a ***** magnet, they flash some even ask for a ride and sometimes I score easily. But thats not the reason I bought the car for, I do drive it for what it is. Im 32 with my second ferrari and my first ferrari at 20, all I can say is that I care more on how I still react towards this cars than how the public does.
