Just curious what you experienced and knowledgable 1:18 model car collectors think about how the various manufacturers stack up...

    CMC
    Minichamps
    AutoArt
    Kyosho
    Jouef
    Mira
    UT
    Giodi
    Norev
    Hot Wheels SuperElite
    Hot Wheels Elite
    Hot Wheels
    Anson
    Bburago
    Maisto
    Ertl
    MotorMax
    Ricko
    Guiloy
    Welly

Is there some consensus on the hierarchy of these companies in terms of quality?

I wondered why you left Exoto off of your list. Definitely right near the top although not up to CMC standards IMHO. A terrible company to deal with that advertises many models that never make seem to make it to production. I myself, have had two models on order since March of 2002 ( yeah that's right, over 5 years!!) and they won't even respond to my e-mails anymore! Unless they come out with a model that you really think you "can't live without", avoid them like the plague and NEVER leave a deposit on any order if you deal directly with them!!

    Sorry, forgot Exoto.

Is your paragraph above referring to CMC or Exoto?

Here is my version of the hierarchy. Some makers are out of business (Mira, Anson, Giodi, UT, Jouef, Beanstalk); Bburago was reincarnated after Maisto bought them. I added Spark as they started making Le Mans racers. I also added a number of makers that were missing.

To be honest, the ranking fluctuates with the model for some makers; some models are made much better than another model by the same maker, so it is impossible to say the rankings are cast in stone. Also, some makers (Minichamps, AutoArt, Ertl, Signature) have multiple lines, with each at a different price point.

    CMC
    Exoto
    Classic Carlectables
    Carousel1
    GMP
    Lane
    Minichamps
    Biante
    AutoArt
    Kyosho
    Spark
    UT
    Norev
Hot Wheels SuperElite (not much more for the money over regular Elite, way overpriced)
    Supercar Collectibles
Hot Wheels Elite (many of the models are prettied-up regualr Hot Wheels, with their inherent quality issues)
    Highway 61
    Shelby Collectibles
    Beanstalk
    Revell
    Giodi
    Mira
    Jouef
    Signature
    Hot Wheels
    Sun Star
    Yat Ming
    Anson
Bburago (usually incorrect scale; made to fit the box)
    Maisto
    Guiloy
    Ertl
    Greenlight Collectibles
    Ricko
    MotorMax
    Welly
