How do they drink?

I imagine they position the straw with a spare hand and either suck fluid in or hit a button on the steering wheel that pumps it.

 

It has a steering wheel activated pump. the bottle is somewhere in the car.

 

Does the weight of the water count in the final weigh in of the car?

 

I dont see why it wouldnt. Plus would F1 drivers be drinking water or would they have Gatorade or Red Bull.

I heard his McLaren car last year had a pump for Johnny Walker.

 

From what I understand their is a push button which sprays water. Open mouth, push button, drink.

Most likely they would drink water.

The only benefit of gatorade is that because of its sodium content it 'tastes' good when you are de-hydrated. As a result there is a natural tendency for athletes to drink more volume (but what ultimately they are getting is more water) than they would without the flavor.

Caffeine (in redbull) is good for concentration and endurance, but the sugar levels are way too high.

I've noticed drivers on redbull get too 'excited' and if they don't crash out in the first turn, have a hard time finding their rythem.

I'm surprised that we see drivers in F1 drinking Red Bull at all considering it owns 2 other teams.

 

I'm pretty sure it's the official drink sponsor for Formula1.

 

Water would make sense. Gatoraide is supposed to be drank at a ratio of 1 part to every 6 parts water, or something like that. A firemen told me that one. I had no idea. It's great for replenishing your body, but isn't a replacement for water. So they probably drink water all race, and Gatoraide after the race (while doing interviews for Speed).

I take a bottle of Gatoraide with me everytime I go hiking. I used to just take water, but kept running out. Now, I drink a bottle of Gatoraide (small one) at the turn around point and I drink way less water, plus I can hike a lot longer. The stuff works when used right.

Water would make more sense. Adding sugars and caffeine wouldn't help anything.

 

Perhaps they're just holding bottles filled with water that have a RedBull label on the outside for their sponsors.

Urine, it helps restore electrolytes in the body after releasing soo much water and sodium.

 

I smell a loop hole in the rules ... ie. install a 50 litre water tank for the driver that has 30 litres emptied in the first lap leaving 20 for the driver. Thus the car races under weight.

After the race they are allowed to top up the 50 litre tank and bingo the car is the correct weight again

if the driver drinks the water doesn't it increase his weight? don't they weigh the drivers as well as the cars?

 

Ok water weighs a kilo per litre, so a team starts off 50 kilos {2.2 pounds per 1 kilo} overweight then makes the driver drink 20 litres in an hour and 20 minutes. Then before the race ends someone lets teams add liquids to the car and tamper with whatever they want? Oh yeah Ferrari can be blamed for that, go tell Bild.

 

My understanding, or atleast this is how it used to be, the teams are allowed to replenish consumed fluids, like oil, etc. ... this is how Williams cheated in the 80's with so called water cooled brakes

I think it is V-10, a cocktail consisting of vodka,lime juice and an energy drink called EJ-10 that was created by Eddie Jordan. I'm not 100% sure about this, but I did read about this cocktail some years ago...

 

Three decades is a long time to keep the same set of rules. I'm sure we both know that F1 bosses change the rules very often.

Also, no one would stand by and let you add 80 pounds of water while you insist that the driver drank that much.
