After looking at Isuk's thread were is he showing his wonderful new 246 Dino. There have been some comments/suggestions regarding removing the Ferrari related badges. In which i concur and agree.
But i have this question. When one is asked what car is it. Do you simply introduce it as a Ferrari Dino? Or a 246 Dino? In that case if the person asking the question has a confused look on his face, does one simply resort back to using the name Ferrari so he get a clearer picture? If that's the case isn't that going against the whole principle of trying to remove ones association with ferrari?
How dose a die hard traditionalist answer the question, "what is it"?

Although we debate it for fun, I say Ferrari Dino....

I am not trying to make it something it isn't, but the average person (especially non-car people) have no clue, could care less, and are mainly just curious about the car

Not 246.Dino? Just Dino? Does anyone know if the other Dino made by Fiat is simply known as.a Dino?

    FIAT Dino.

This, because it is a FIAT.

agree 100% Dino!! We had our car show today & I was asked what sort of car my car was. A PO had a Ferrari emblem put on the trunk (which I would remove but would leave holes). I just say Dino and when queried if it is a Ferrari I just say no. The looks of this car says it all- subtlety is a social grace not often exercised it seems to me.

It isn't a Fiat, just as it isn't a Ferrari...

There are more Ferrari badges on it than Fiat....

I would still maintain that the Dino is more Ferrari than any current or modern car to leave those same wonderful gates...

I call mine a Ferrari Dino to differentiate it from Fiat Dinos.
And, yes, if you say "Dino" to the average person they will have never heard of it and it will mean nothing to them.

And I agree that the Dino and Daytonas were the last true Ferraris. Certainly since the death of Enzo the cars are just Ultra Fiats-- great cars, but Fiats.

Say Dino and or 246gt (s) and you will be stared at,
Ferrari Dino 246, gets the oooh! Aaah! Oh yeah! I know that car.
Not so in Europe methinks, where the car is well known by the public in general.
from the same era you can include the 365gt4 and the big Dino, the Boxer

I never called my car a "Ferrari Dino". I called it a 246 Dino or a Dino GT.

If someone wanted to call it a Ferrari or a Fiat, I could care less. Dino's are magnificent for being what they are.

If I ever get a Fiat Dino Spider, that's exactly what I would call it too.

I think that's okay: When a casual observer who doesn't know - or care - about the details asks what kind of car it is - or, worse, asks if it's a Karmann-Ghia, Opel, or Saab Sonett - simply responding "Ferrari Dino" for the sake of clarity is no crime.

It's not misrepresenting the car, just making it clear that this is the Ferrari Dino, as opposed to the Fiat Dino.

If, and only if, the person asking the question is interested, you can get into the details that are important to the likes of us here (but which is likely going to bore non-Ferraristi types), i.e., they shared an engine developed by Ferrari with Fiats of the same name; there was a 206 and a 246; they were named after Enzo's (legitimate) son and were never badged at the factory as Ferraris; the race history; etc., etc.

Now, whether the Dino "is" or "is not" really-truly a Ferrari, that's a subject of another thread. :)

What, exactly, will you call it?

"Fiat Dino Spider," or just "Dino Spyder?"

I had a Porsche when the 74 Dino Spyder was around in the So.Ca. area and I recall a guy across the street who had a blue one. I remember thinking I should have paid a little more and gotten one instead of the Carrera which I did enjoy. The feeling of my friends and I was that the car was a Ferrari Dino. I don't know anyone who didn't think of it as a Ferrari. This is not to say the 12's weren't given more of a tip of the hat, no question there.Ferrari or no it's a classic we can all appreciate.
