I was wondering how most of you experience the power of the 355. On paper it is a really fast car, but in reality that normally only comes to use on a race track. I really like the noise of my Capristo, nothing else on the road comes close to that. So that is really important for me while driving, and it sounds fast even if you are not going fast... But... I do not consider my spider a really fast car. I own (or have owned) some fast (turbo) cars, (Porsche 930 tuned , Porsche 996 GT3, Maserati 3200 ), and all feel much faster than my spider. My rpm range is 2500-6000, with the occasional 8000 for fun, but normally shifting at 6000. Am I spoiled by the turbo cars? Or should I drive with rpm between 4000 and 8000 all the time to take full advantage of its power? The GT3 is driven in the same range, by the way, and has the same bhp on paper...but is much faster... Or is a spider definitely slower than a GTB?
The F355 is adequately fast for a street car, But realistically, it is "not that fast" of a sports car these days at 4.5 0-60. In its day, it was fast, almost equal to my C4 GS. But today, fast cars are 0-60 in 3.0 or less. And there is no <cost effective> way to make a F355 that fast. Remember its a 23 year old design--time marches on.
I prefer to carry momentum through turns polishing my driving skills If I wanted speed I'd buy a pro stocker [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y0T6iI0vtS4[/ame]
There are much faster cars yes, but in terms of new cars that are similar it is (surprisingly) relevant. Pretty close to a Cayman GT4 in terms of power/weight and still has better gearing and higher rev limit. My 95 B ran similar acceleration times to a 996 GT3 or Cayman GT4 Spider would be a little slower than a B due to the extra weight
With peak torque at 5500 the real power starts from 5000rpm If you stay in the 5 to 8K zone there is plenty to have fun with
What is speed? Acceleration? A feeling of torque? 0-60mph? Literally (to me) speed is how fast will a car go. In 2017 there are still not many cars that can top 183mph. The 355 is still VERY fast. It just will not accelerate as quickly as many mundane cars built in recent years.
Are you kidding me? I have a 348ts and I think it's fast... And I have 60-70hp less than the 355. But I always slam the pedal to the floor and shift at 8000rpm when I want to accelerate hard. This is what the Ferrari is all about, so shifting at 6000rpm is a wasted opportunity to me.. The 355 screams so beautiful up there!👍 Sent fra min SM-G935F via Tapatalk
Don't get me wrong, I hugely enjoy my 355, but my Porsche 968 cabrio is not much behind in speed in normal street use at all. Only a 968 is a normal car with a 4-cyl (and ditto unimpressive sound), and a Ferrari is a Ferrari... Of course it still is fast, but my GT3 feels much faster. Good to hear then that a GTB more or less matches a GT3, then it must be me. And I will use some more revs
Just a thought: the 355 has a very very long throttle travel If you are not using it all which is very easy you won't be getting the maximum from your car and so it may seem relatively slow Also the power curve is very different to a Porsche (especially) turbo with both peak power and peak torque much closer to peak revs
Two ways to answer: 1) I have tracked my 355, plenty fast and a lot of fun ! 2) Drag/Street racing your 355 at a stop light is like French Ksiing your sister.....Ya just don't do it ! Many turbo / Forced induction cars out there. I don't want a ticket or an accident losing to a kid in a Suburu.
run youre gears higher up through the rpms.. and not a part throttle.. go full throttle.. where possible.. i run first and second at full throttle.. just to before redline... theres plenty of power in there range on the street.. I even run 3rd gear to redline on occasion.. with a downshift+ throttle blip when im higher up in rpms from 4th... for me even with its age, the 355 has plenty power for street use.. with the most modern cars, 458, 488 etc.. of course id take one.. but these things are monsters.. theres no way to even come close "safely" of their potential on the street.. so in a way.. with the 355 "less is more" sort of speak.
You've never blipped the throttle in a tunnel or under an overpass??? :O Or run it 8K same locations? Seriously, put the biggest smile on my face.
Most fun in a 355 is on a twisty road where you can drive in 2nd and 3rd at high Rpm and take advantage of the handling and brakes to make up for lack of torque.
Just track it to find out what it can really do and more so what you can do LOL She will go as fast as you can make it go around turns Ahh I can feel it again now, loosing grip jump on the gas and go weeeeeeeeeeeeee Image Unavailable, Please Login
Agree. F355 is much more impressive on a track than on the road. It will perform as well if not better than a nonturbod Porsche, Corvette from that era.
Sure as hell beats the crap out of vroom vroom in a tunnel LOL [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BJX-OSCZ5Ks[/ame]
Hey! I'm not sure if it is relevant to the 355, but when I bought my 348 I had a feeling that I couldn't get full power. So I had someone helping me to put the trottle pedal to the floor (Engine off of course) as I studied the moment on the trottle bodied. And as I suspected I didn't fully open. A little adjustment and it gave full power. Sent fra min SM-G935F via Tapatalk
Thrill, adrenaline, heart dropping, toe curling are highs sport car enthusiasts associate with speed. On the contrary, this euphoric feeling we seek from driving like the car is stolen is not a result of speed. Speed is a unit of space covered over a period of measured time. Because speed is constant, the human body does not feel it. Just like a person sitting in a plane cruising at 400 mph can easily get up and walk as though he is at a stand still. Likewise driving a car at 50, 60 or 120 mph will not generate any high. What the human body feels however is velocity. Velocity is a change in direction in 3 dimensional plane. A car moving at 70 mph forward then speed up to 100 mph is a change in velocity. Similarly, a car moving at 70 mph forward, turns right or left is a change in velocity. The more abrupt, the more rapid the change, the greater the velocity and hence the greater the thrill. Technically speaking, to get the thrill and adrenaline from driving, a car need not to go that fast. It just need to able to change direction abruptly and maintain control. Fortunately, us 355 owners we have the car that is very capable. It's not the fastest but it is the perfect platform capable of changing direction abruptly and maintain control. It is the perfect platform as I mentioned in the other thread. Did I mention it's beautiful as well?
I really miss my 355, which I now honestly regret selling. It was a fabolous machine, the sound was better than most of the V12 Ferraris (seriously) and the driving sensation, that I got from it was so pure, that it can't be comparet to anything else, that I owned or raced (I am amateur racing a little bit). Only the steering wheel was a little bit too soft, but it gave a lot of information, nevertheless. And the go-cart feel, that everyone is talking about is really there - this car is a pure analog machine and on top of that also comfortable to drive on the road. It's power is absolutely enough, I must say. The looks and the gated shifter are things, that I don't think need mentioning
By sitting still at a stoplight and watching everyone around me lose their frickin minds as if they've just had the most overwhelming spiritual experience of their lives. Now *that* is power.
