I know we all cherish our cars very much but sometimes we all get into accidents,minor/major,that are unavoidable and our cars end up getting some paint work done to them. Now regardless of how you drive the car, garage Q/daily driver, seeing how your car's not original any more, does that make you feel less attached to it or should i say,do you feel any different towards your car now ? Like i said these things are inevitable and sooner or later we all get in that mess, but how do you accept it ?

As long as it was done properly and professionally, it makes no difference to me, but then again, I use my cars. Except when I'm on the other side of the world, that is. Then its my mechanic that gets to have the fun.

    Hey Erick,
Thanks for the ref to that attorney in Knoxville,TN.I spoke to him and we chatted for good 20 minutes and he concluded that it wasn't worth his time, which makes sense.
Regarding the paint work, when you see a similar car (all original) does that not make you compare your car to that one and since your car's not orginal any more hence it feels less desirable ? I know i am going to get whopping on this thread and yes i do drive my cars however their's something about the originality that still bothers me a little bit.

I recently had a front re-spray because of stone chip damage and am very happy with the result. It doesn't make any difference to the way i feel about the car.As long as the correct paint code is used there shouldn't be a problem.
I guess i may feel different if i had a concourse classic Ferrari but my 355 looks great with it's new coat on ;)

The paint on my 1982 Mondial is perfect and original. The 365 was resprayed in the mid 80's and has some acid rain damage. I'm probably going to have it resprayed next year (along with replacing the delaminated rear window).

The only time that I would get upset about a resprayed car would be if I was buying an "all original, never restored" car. In that case, I would be more mad that the car was misrepresented, and not so much worried about the paint.

Paint is there to protect the metal from rusting. Not something that should be endlessly waxed and polished to shine.

    Erick,
This is where i was coming to,so how would you pursue a situation like that ? Would you notify the dealership where you bought the car and take it from there or just sit back and take it as a life's experience ? You are right as it has nothing to do with the paint quality itself but yes it would make you mad as hell that the car was misrepresented to the new owner who was buying an all original, never restored car.
Btw does anyone knows any accidents disclosure laws in the state of TN ?

Do you drive it? I felt this way too many times to count & parked in the distance. S""" happens. All my cars start out spotless & live to be homologous if I drive them.

Most any painter can get the paint code correct, but it takes a REALLY good body and paint person to adjust the color for ten years of fade.

This type of concern can only be found in the US, where the general concern among Ferrari owners are who has the lowest miles and a selling point of "never seen rain" are the order of the day.

I have been going to Maranello for years. I am partners in a business in town. I have been to the factory dozens of times....and here is the deal:

EVERY car when it comes off the line is driven by an angry Italian through the mountains...whether it is raining, snowing, sleeting or a nice day. They ALL come back with some chips or damage and they are repaired before shipment. Additionally, many cars are damaged in the trip from Europe. Some just need paint work, others body and paint. That is just the way life works. So to feel that the end of the world has happened if you need to get a respray is rediculous...because more than likely it has already been done before you picked up your 'new' car.

Drive it, have fun, and fix it!!

    Ciao

I would absoultyly love it!! Nothing like a fresh, deep,no swrils, paint job. They way it refelcts the sun..the way it looks at dusk..can't beat it. If I had my way,I would strip and paint my cars every 4 years..but I don't have that kinda money so I'm stuck with polishing and buffing etc..,

Metal?? What's that?? Well, I endlessly shine and clean my car, but I also drive my Lotus all the time. There are too many flaws for me to worry about one more. Some day I'll paint the whole car but it will cost more than any Ferrari unless I do the prep work myself.

As long as it is done well I could care less because most of the cars I have, I am keeping.

My 355 had paintwork done before I got it that I didn’t know about. At first I was pissed off. I feel better now because of the following reasons:

    1. A Ferrari is more than its paint.
    2. I got into racing. (You try just to keep the body on the car, matching paint is just a bonus)(Different car)
    3. I originally bought the car because of what I looked like in it. I now drive it because of what I feel like in it.
    4. Repainted Ferraris sell for seven figures all year long.

You will NEVER drive a car that has perfect paint forever. You have to get over the fact that somebody else messed up your baby before you got it. Don’t let yourself feel it’s sloppy seconds. It’s a FERRARI. Properly repaired paint does not change that one little bit. Most every Ferrari you see that is more than two or three years old has had paintwork of some kind.

    However, paintwork is NOT bodywork.
You should have been informed about ANY bodywork such as panel replacement or body filler before your purchase.

If somebody sold you a Ferrari without telling you about the bodywork, I would take legal action against him or her. If it was a dealer I would force them to take the car back and then I would let the world know what they did.

It’s not that bodywork invalidates a Ferrari; it’s the deception that I have a problem with.

    Anyway that’s what I think.

As they've pretty much all had paint since they left the factory it doesnt bother me at all, unless of course the paint work is badly done, then its off to the paint shop for a rub down refinish, I'm fortunate in that my local bodyshop is not only one of the best in the North West of England but also run by a friend who's happy for me to do the prep (that way I know its done properly)

A few months ago, I had a dent on the nose of my car fixed, plus some other paint work done... And I love it more than ever, because it looks better than before. A few years ago, same story: dent in the hood, got it fixed and the quality of the paint & repair job was better than the rest of the car! Both "accidents" were my fault. If someone else caused them, I'd be a bit more pissed off, but nonetheless, it can be fixed and be better than before. I say that, as I have found a great body shop, who happen to be the authorised Ferrari repair shop here in Vancouver and I'll go to them first for any other accidents (well, I hope not to have another accident, but like you said, it can and may happen). That's the key; find a great shop.

Another thing to remember, its just metal and paint. Human hands put it together, they can fix it.

Are you certain the dealer/individual who sold it to you was aware it was repainted? I recently returned a BWM off lease that had paint work done for a minor mishap in the garage. Told the dealer, but didn't say where it was done and he couldn't find the work. So, it is possible the dealer didn't know.

Get it appraised. Tell the guy it's been repainted, and you'd also like an appraisal for what it would be worth with original paint.

Probably won't be a big difference, unless the car got bent and needed paint because of it. Did you carfax it? Or is it too old for that?

If it's bent, not fixed right, then take them to small claims court for the difference, otherwise, it certainly isn't enuf to warrant a full blown lawsuit.

Also, report the dealer to the Better Business Bureau. you may find that he has several complaints already, or that you are the 1st.
