Doe anyone else get butterflies in their stomach when they go to drive their Ferrari? I've had My 348 TS for 6 months now and as I went to collect her to go for a drive today (she has to be stored away from My house as I've nowhere safe to park her nearby ), I realised that I had butterflies in My stomach due to the anticipation of driving her again! (It's only been a few days since I last drove her!). I then realised that I get this exact same feeling every time I go to drive her! (Once I'm actually driving her the butterflies go and the big grin takes over! ), it's the same sort of nervous excitement that you get when you see the love of your life! (which I guess she is!). It's actually quite remarkable that a machine made of metal, plastic, leather, rubber etc., etc., can generate such a personal emotion, and I hope it never goes away! This got Me thinking - Do other owners feel this way before they go for a drive, or are they more blasé about driving a Ferrari? (And are there any owners who used to get excited about driving their Ferrari but have become blasé about it now?)
Every time I get in my car I get butterflies. It invokes a feeling like no other. That is what I find is so special about these cars. The emotions it's able to extract out of you. Being very passionate about Ferrari and it's history, it's a very special feeling to just own it. I find myself out in the garage often in the morning, enjoying a cup of coffee and just staring at the reflection off the car. It sure does make me smile.
I like to think of it as excitement.. something really good is going to happen soon kinda excitement. Then.. once I've been driving for a few seconds this sense of one-ness with the car and I find myself saying "I f#$%ing love driving this car." 4 years and still gets the juices flowing.
The 'butterflies' come and go depending on how long since the last drive. I usually go a week between rides and the feeling will grow as I prep for the ride. The best part is really the moment just before hitting the red button. When it roars to life the big grin hits. Watching the gauges move as it warms up and hearing all the systems in the car go through their routine is priceless. All is eclipsed when you push the pedal a bit underway and oh that sound. My F12 is such a beast that its hard to describe but I think the feeling is the same with all Ferrari owners. Sometimes just catching a great view angle of the car in the garage mid week will raise the emotion. I hope the feeling never fades.
First, it depends on what your doing with your Ferrari: Sunday drive or Track? Track adds the anxiety of a possible accident and loss of the car, as well as potential damage to oneself. It also adds the excitement of a potential PR for your track time and knowing your driving a Ferrari at or near it's limits. Sunday drives tend to bring thoughts of pride and accomplishment, with the hope it doesn't embarrassingly break down.
I've been driving these cars and I get the exact same thing. I'm truly excited just thinking of when I will get to take one of the prancing horses out. When I'm behind the wheel I say the same thing: I love driving this car! It's the best car in the world!
I would call it excitement, not nervousness. I've driven many cars that are amazing machines, but none stirs my soul like a Ferrari, and when you own the car it feels even better. The sound and feeling when the engine turns over and the revs jump is indescribable. I love taking the car for a drive with no destination. I think, "I'll just giver her some exercise for 20 minutes" and find myself forcing myself to go home after 90 minutes.
It is more than driving, just to sit in and feel it prior to start is a pure joy. Just you, the feeling of everything fits at the right place-here I am - I achieve to be here and then the anticipation of the symphony, what a prelude.
For me it's not about feeling rich. There are many other expensive things I own, but none of the makes me feel like the Ferrari. It's about the experience of driving it - exhilarating, intense, but also relaxing. It helps clear my mind and put a smile on my face in a way that expensive clothes, houses, jewelry definitely cannot do. The experience is really something special.
+1 I watch the weather patterns to scan for a window between rain to take the car out often. When one finally opens up I can have trouble sleeping if it's been a while since a drive. So many preparations too since I am almost always ready for a spontaneous concourse show when I turn the key!
I truly enjoy each drive, mostly just cruising down the interstate. I wouldn't say I get butterflies but it's a different feeling than driving anything else. Just so much fun.
Not a Ferrari, but driving a '99 Diablo Roadster is special and leaves you feeling special. The car is so rare and beautiful its an occasion for everyone on the road (except for beautiful women, as discussed many times). Always draws a crowd at at a show or a gas station. When you get out, the tingling sensation lasts for a few hours.
I feel good! Just sitting in them makes me proud and Lucky to own these cars. I can go in the garage at any time just to sit, relax and dream. Just look around the interior see how nice it is, smell the leather and then I look in the Mirror at the little horse in the back glass in the TR. Side mirrors on the GTB show the side intake. When I drive I feel like................ whatever I want to be!
What about the smell? My 360 is 12 years old but still has an interior smell that is unique and special. Also, the engine produces a certain smell and I love that the entire garage smells like Ferrari long after she has been parked after a drive. They should make a cologne out of that smell.
Actually the opposite. I feel I need 5k handy every time I drive mine now. Since everyone talks down value in every thread around here, I'm surprised it's only 5k at a time.
I get to drive my car only about two weeks per year as I'm deployed overseas so it does feel very special when I finally get to sit in it and turn the ignition key of my 328 (or the start button in the CS ).
