Listen I don't own a ferrari, but its still driving me nuts how exactly do you hold yourselves back from putting your foot down and just using your ferrari like they do in europe on the autobahn, the empty backroads there or like they did on Miami Vice IE: floring it whenever you get an empty space of road.

I mean do you go to a race track once a week to get it out of your system, is it just an age thing, or is everyone effected by this temptation as soon as you step into one with the keys in your hand regardless of age?

By the way is the secret to having a reliable italian car really just letting it warm up before you put your foot in it?

Jay's said this about all of his italian cars, and one of them which he has yet to say anything about is a late 1970's 308 gtb

By thinking of the horrid consequences should I get caught maybe. I'd rather be forced to drive slowly than not drive at all after losing my license.

Fortunately, here in Germany you can just go on the autobahn if you want to floor it. Makes it easier to drive reasonable on other roads.

It is an age old struggle to stay in line. Mostly I think of hurting a family that is doing nothing wrong but due to speeding that I could possibly hurt. I do try to find and empty highway from time to time early in the morning and even then I a cautious. Track days are somewhat satisfying except you don't get to design the track to suit your driving style. After all we are only human but it is not a good thing to end up in the news paper. Worse for business than a tattoo.

I try not to shift. I guess I never changed my normal driving habits. You can be reckless in any car. Enjoy the ride

When you have to fix it, you won't be so keen on trying to break it.

I live in Germany and I VERY RARELY drive faster than 80mph (140kph) ON THE AUTOBAHN, even in the Ferrari.

There is just little point in it. The ride is over just that much quicker.

A friend of mine has a Testarossa and a 308 and he swears he has never been over 110 mph in either ever. He doesn't even do the autobahn, but the back roads at 60mph and less and has a absolute blast. I believe him.

Besides as another above said, "Tickets?" I have gotten more speeding tickets on the autobahn over the years than I care to remember. Never got one on a 2-lane that I recall.

Got nads and want to go fast? Buy an airplane and fly NOE.

    And final usless tidbit,

Driving a Ferrari is not about going Fast ...................

Don't have a Ferrari (or any other fast car at this time) but I hold a license in 3 different countries. I got mine in the UK, then moved to Spain and applied for one here. But since I'm Dutch all my family lives there I applied for one there as well, stating I lived at my grand parents home. I used to live in the carribean and I still know a few people there so I might get one of those too...

What happens is, If I get caught speeding in spain, I show them my dutch license (my car is on english plates). I haven't been caught yet (knocks on wood) but my dad has been stopped a few times using a similar 'multiple licenses' system. Normally its an on the spot fine as there's so much paperwork involved and confusing stuff they already give up before they start.

If one of us does get caught with high speeds (80Kmh over or so) the worst we'll end up in is a ban (which, since you're an outsider is normally for a few months only).

Not sure if it works in the US using a license from another state.

I could be wrong, but I think all the counties are now wired together under the EU umbrella, as most places just issue EU liscenses now. Be careful as you might wind up going to the pokey the next time.

Where I live, traffic is light, but the number of deer, elk and big horn sheep on the road work as well to slow me down as any traffic enforcement could. Howevr, the biggest deterent for me is the thought of possibly injuring or worse someone else, even if it's partially or wholly their fault.

Yes, I do track my car.

The "secret" to having a reliable Italian car:

    1. Buy a great example of the right model - some of them were designed and built better than other.
    2. Yes - warm it up properly, and drive it with respect for the mechanicals.
    3. Find a good mechanic and maintain it religiously.

As far as speed, I have a 328, which is loud and fun well below speeds that would be stupid on public roads. I.e., you can put your foot down. I don't know what the hell I'd do with an F430, but I agree with other posts here that you'd really need to take it to the track before things got interesting. Even the 355 is probably too fast to really push on public roads.

As an aside, all these cars are louder than many suburb-dwellers would prefer, so save the tachometer exercise sessions for back roads.

This is true. England happily 99/100 times don't bother spending time on it. Several other countries are coming down harder on it too (hence the reason I want a caribbean license too). I'm happy with on the spot fines. I'm not happy with points/loss of license:D.

I don't. However, I live in a smaller city where some back country roads are but a few minutes away. Going dangerous fast down a long stretch of open road is fun once or twice, but how long will your car last doing 150 mph all the time...not long. Then it becomes driving it hard through twisty scenic countryside, which is much more fun, a lot less dangerous, and will result in a ticket rather than jail. A ticket I can handle. I'm too pretty for jail.

Most of the time, I drive it like I stole it, but never in a location that is going to harm someone else as a result of my stupidity.

    What holds me back?

Simple, as I am getting on the highway, I think of the world without me. I think dam If I was not here countries would fall, oceans would become poison, land would become dry and barren, all the women, they would just shrivel up and all look like my 90 year old great grandmother. The weight on my shoulders...

So I slow down for all you guys...

Wait, I don't drive a Lamborghini... Scratch all that...

Alright that makes sense. the only thing that bugs me here in America here is the speed limit on the highway, it feels like it should be 75 - 80 mph provided the weather is good, however I can see a maximum of 65 on wet days.
But not on bright shiny clear days when theres hardly any traffic.

I do have far much more fun driving my old car on the twisty backroads at 40 mph late at night, much more than at 75 mph the highway in the daytime.

So If I had one I'd drive responsibly in the daytime with it, go to the track on the weekends to blow off some steam and occasionally take it out late at night on one of my favorate driving roads, and blast it.

By the way can the 328 gts house someone whos 5'10 200 pounds comfortably? there one in a showroom a few miles away from where I live that I've looked at and photos do not do that car justice (two tone red and black with tan interior and the daytona seat package)

I drive it however I feel like. In 4 years I have never been pulled over. On the highway I generally go with the traffic + maybe 5-10 mph, with an occasional WOT now and then.... There is no sense in having the car if you don't get to enjoy it!

indeed no sense in having a car you don't enjoy driving, I brought up how the 328 would fit me because I heard it was a tightfit for most people, including tom selleck seing as there really wasn't that many changes between the 308 and 328.

I've always thought that the speed limits should be higher in my country too, but then not everyone has a car that can safely go that fast. Rickety old beat up cars travelling at 150km/h are just horrid accidents waiting to happen!
