    I think you mean loose, here.

    The stopwatch generally indicates that more downforce wins on the stop watch even if the car is not as fast at teh end of the straight, it is faster getting onto the straight. Faster onto the straight measn faster one the straight until you hit the wall of wind.

    But they need (NEED) that confidence inspiring massive dose of understeer.......

    Correct.

    In a Ford MK-IV that occurs at 223mph were the car will be making about 958 lbs of lift.

    Do remember to roll off the throttle and land the front wheels before applying brakes for the corner.

    In an Audi R8 this is less of an issue as you'll be making over 3000 lbs of downforce even though the drag will limit you to about 185 mph.
