Steven, No Cobra CF's? Are you sure the roadster's fit? The height of the those seats is inane, and the available space is not so. The big thing I worry about is that your seating style. The way you discribed how you sit in the other thread lead me to believe that you sit witht the back angled back more so then you would otherwise, aka more like a V and less like a L for the back of the seat. I imagine that if this is how you sit, you would want a seat with LARGE G factor. something these seats do not seem to have.... http://www.sparcousa.com/Seat_Dim_Guide.pdf I am rabbling, I appoligize. But do you know what I am tring to get at?
Agreed, it should be tight but fit at 34.57 high. Seating comfort should be ok as i may use some lumbar pillows. Can also "lean" the seats a bit with careful mounting mods. Naturally expected to make some mounting mods anyway due to aftermarket seats and custom brackets are not that expensive. The debate is... do i want the seats on adjustable tracks or carefully measure EXACTLY where i want the seat and get permanent mounts? Ahhh, there is where the "fun" begins May i simply say the Cobra seats were simply not meant to be at this time. FYI: the Cobra Misano is 34" high and weighs 25 lbs (leather) versus about 15.5 for the Sparco. That's a full 20 lbs savings alone. ALSO see http://www.ferrarichat.com/discus/messages/251280/144072.html ALSO: i RARELY drive with the roof on EXCEPT for the winter. In fact i NEVER carry the top with me (nor the spare tire) so height is moot, per se, except during winter. Naturally would prefer it fit under sealed roof and this SHOULD be feasible with about 1" to spare
And how does it feel to be able to go on and on like that for 20-some-odd posts and not have a single new-car-owning idiot jumping in to spoil the fun with some lame argument to the contrary? BTW, this is a great thread... very funny... Bwahahahaha! Makes me want to go right out and drive one of these bicep-building left-leg-straining Ferraris... I think I've forgotten what its like. Anyone loan me their car for a day? (I am on withdrawl.)
The F40 is totally on-topic here... especially in a thread talking about the various classic Ferraris! It *is* a Classic Ferrari... though, whether it or the GTO gets the title of "King of the Classics", I'll let you debate. The Supercar forum is for the many threads discussing the larger group of supercars and their competition (like the Mclaren F1)... and nobody's going to argue if you throw a P4 into the discussions there. The reason for the separate group is that *lots* of people like the threads on the supercars... so, you guys can read Classic and Supercars, and never have to set foot near Modern; while the 360 owners can read Modern and Supercars. Seem reasonable?
OK. I hear some people referring to pre-328 as "real Ferrari" in the past, so I was wondering exactly what it meant. Thanks! Yes, 328 truly tickle your sensation after getting used to it! Now I know how to use "reply" button!
I remember first time I drove over 100 miles & put the car in a garage, and the smell scared me! I Called FoD immediately as thought something was wrong. Now I like this smell, too.
I agree with you completely! (Although I have to point out that BB bodies are pressed on dies, not hand hammered.) I'll add two: Real Ferraris are pre-FIAT. Real Ferraris use XWX tires (I'm just giving you "classic" guys a hard time. ) --Matt
Steven: You are not driving a real 308 with those upgrades! Seriously, a Euro 308QV has to be a really cool car to own. I have been tempted to replace the bumpers on my USA 308QV with the Euro bumpers. Besides the weight savings of over 100 pounds, they look really cool. Unfortunately, I show my car and cannot have the Euro bumpers. Ken
Thanks Ken. She is indeed a work of art in progress. Yes, showing the car for points really leaves you out of luck The true potential of the car is laying dormant as i can tell a difference from 1/2 tank of gas to empty. Can't wait to feel her with all these mods and weight loss. i DO take the car to shows, but could care less about points or awards. i simply go to have fun. At the end of the day i KNOW she is for DRIVING Well... that is once i get my license back in 33 days
Enzo would (and did!) disagree. Thanks for the compliment, Steven. Also, congratulations on tuning your car to suit your tastes. Along the same lines, I think that I may machine some spacers to raise my seats, particularly in the front. Please send me a message if you want to hear any details. MSDesign, the first car to have bodywork that was die-stamped rather than hand hammered was the Daytona. All cars before that were constructed from individual panels that were hand beaten, fitted to a body buck, and then welded together. By Ferrarichat definition, all "classic" Ferrari bodywork is not hand beaten, but those cars are definitely hand-fitted. All Ferraris are wonderful, but it does seem that they're a little more wonderful the older they get! --Matt
Matt, MANY thanks my friend for the very generous offer (spacers). Once i get the car here (May 1) and have a chance on May 2 to remove stock seats and begin fitting in the new ones i will better know what is needed. Odds are i may need to ask Verell to custom make seat mounting brackets. Really straightforward stuff and easy to calculate. Today i did some research on either steel or titanium bar for the should strap mounting. Am still researching the possibilities and will have more talks with structual engineers over the passing week or two.
D@mn straight! Nobody ever came up to me at a gas station and asked me: "Is that the new Mustang?" In your face and all Ferrari!
The Boxer bodies were all "hand-hammered" and welded together by Scaglietti. This was the last Ferrari production model to be built that way. For a look at the wooden bucks used, access a copy of "Inside Ferrari" by Michael Dregni.
I wish they'd build something new I could get really excited about. The F40 LM was the last Ferrari that I really loved, the F50s are cool but not as desirable as an F40 The Enzo is Ugh The 360 are ok, 456 & 612 are not "my" Ferraris, 550-575 is nice but I'd need a real convertible for that kind of $, plus it would look better than the 550 Barchetta. the 575 Stradale that was in a thread here was AWESOME My kind of Ferrari I want to see a retro 512TR or BB What I really want to see is a retro road car based on a Testa Rossa or a P4
The 512TR is so Un PC, like me Its obscenely sexy in an era of hightened prudishness LOL There are so few TRs on the roads these days that they are really special vs all the 360s I see all over Miami all the time
Awesome comment and makes one really think. The 360 seems so mainstream nowadays. Those of us with "classics" are rare today... let olone in 20 years from today. Just wait 20 years and a used 360 will be "cheap"... and i wonder how the F1 will fair over those who chose the manual tranny. i'd bet the manual 360s will command a nice premium
My girls and i had a "red-car" day today. Went all over town in our 3.2 cab. Beautiful day! We parked it at a restaurant at our boat dock and had lunch. As we were finishing, a couple came up to us and asked how we liked our Ferrari and had it been reliable. I've had it for two years and except for a minor coolant leak it's been perfect. Turns out they have a 360 F1 Spider with 500 miles on it that has been towed back to the shop THREE TIMES (still in now) for engine-related issues. So frustrated that they're thinking of getting rid of it for another Porsche. Think i'll stick to the heavy clutch and oil smell....
So - just playing the devil's advocate here, folks - how does everyone feel about these newer models...? F1 inspired transmissions, power steering, some milkd driver assistant luxuries, etc. Back when Ferrari was alive, racing was his thing; everything he did revolved around racing... It seems that, even after his passing, the company has kept with that priority and the road cars of today are still based off of the racecars, just as they were back in the days when they made your "real" Ferraris... So are today's Ferraris not "real" or are "creature comforts" like F1 trannies and power steering just a result of racing advancement...?
