How does the front end of a Murcielago lift for train tracks?

    I've heard of how the Murcielago has a button to raise the front end of the car for going over train tracks and up driveways, but how does it work? Is it raised by airbags? Airshocks? Some other mechanical device?

    With air shocks, until they start leaking and then you can use The Force :)

    Hydraulic pressure courtesy of the power steering system extends the front shocks a bit. No air involved.

    Really, I guess you learn something new every day, thanks.

    Do you know why the system fails if you don't use it regularly, and how long is to long between lifts ?

    I've never heard that, I've heard the opposite, that it can fail from too much use and develop leaks.

    Yes, I’ve heard that as well. However, in my case I don't use the function very often so I'm concerned about infrequent use.

    The system (fitted to Diablos, Murcielagos and Gallardos) is rather poorly engineered (Koni makes the shocks but won't fix'em). The main problem seems to be leakage that occurs if the car hits a significant bump when pressurized or is left parked in this state (raised).

    After reading the info from that link, I'm no longer interested in putting this system in use...

    Speed Racer style autojacks would be more practical than a leaky high-cost shock system hahaha.
