OK, I am certainly not an F1 insider, so when the commentators state that all the teams are going to shut down their facilities for two weeks to allow the employees to spend time with their families it sounds a little like wishful thinking. How would this be agreed upon, much less be enforced?

This doesn´t apply to Mercedes, but just for safety reasons.

All teams should be thankful to Mercedes for staying at the office while others go to the beach.

Eddie Jordan came up with this and I hate it. I also doubt that it has a place in today's F1.

Hopefully they get rid of this in the next Concorde agreement. Bernie's push to more races certainly helps.

    LOL!

It does absolutely suck. This year's schedule is the worst ever. 3 weeks...a race...3 more weeks...a race. Then like 9 races in 10 weeks at the end of the year or something like that. Dumb.

thanks for asking the question---for a sport that already is most of the year and thrives on sponsorhip and advertising dollars, a month long break seems too much.

So, except for the engineers working at home and networking online.....and the fabrication being done in satellite locations or by vendors it is two weeks off for everone!!!!
Except for building security, maintenance updates, and the odd team principle in a janitor's uniform going through the facility.....

I thought the rule is that they've literally got to turn off the lights (& 'puters?) and lock the doors - Nobody is allowed in the building.

Now, as mentioned how the hell they stop the engineers having a copy of Catia at home and working/networking is beyond me.....

It also presents the 'standard' opportunity to do, eg, server upgrades and the like. Dunno if IT folk are excluded? Maybe Fpiloto's 'man on the inside' can give us a clue? ;)

    Cheers,
    Ian

It isn't much of an F1 thing. Mostly, all of Europe shuts down for a month every year. Almost everything slows down. This is the way they do vacation. In America, we typically take 2 weeks at any time, but we have our Spring Break at Easter. Well, this is Europe's Vacation Break in the Summer- and it typically lasts 4 weeks.

'Mainland' Europe, very true. But not in the UK where most of 'em are based of course.

    Cheers,
