I recently took my wife to Boston for a weekend "on the town" and somehow conned her into taking the 328 down, despite the lack of room for her usually copious amount of luggage. The weekend was fine, but, on the way out of town, the 328 broke down. It took over an hour on the side of the road waiting for a tow truck, an hour for them to figure out how to get it up on the flatbed, a 40-min ride(in the opposite direction) to the repair shop, a 30-min cab ride back into Boston to pick up a rental car and drive back home..all in 80+-degree weather. Needless to say, she was NOT happy.

Now, it usually takes me some time to convince her to even ride in the car, never mind take a trip. Looks like the I'll be SUV-ing it if I plan on taking her anywhere from here on out. My wife never understood my love of the car (lack of creature comfort, noise, etc.), but tolerated the attention I lavished on it and the time I spend driving it. Now, her tolerance has degraded to contempt. She now refers to it as "that f-ing car". Am I all alone in this?

Maybe should have put this in Ferrari Discussion, but I suspect it's the plight of the P-Car, L-Car etc. enthusiast as well.

    That's ashame..................

My wife enjoys the car and doesn't have a name for it. Sometimes she gets too much sun with the top down, but other than that, no issues. Though, we haven't broken down either. I can understand your wifes' point regarding her experience. I think you need to talk to her seriously so this doesn't become an issue between you two. I think you have to agree that spending hours dealing with car repairs is not your wifes' idea of a good time. She just has to be understanding or explain why she doesn't want to be. Anyway, I've got to tell you if a car was causing tension in my relationship and there was a valid reason, I'd let it go.

Jeremy Clarkson's wife started referring to his Ford GT with that exact same phrase until he took it back--it had several problems that Ford Europe couldn't seem to fix, despite numerous attempts. Story in Top Gear.

I guess you will be driving alone for a while.

Unfortunately, the ONLY time it's broken down(overheated due to a bad thermostat),was during the third time she's ever been in the car. Other than that, it's given me nearly 10K miles of trouble-free driving in the last 12 mos! Figures. In any event, she's not against having the car..she bought it for me...it's my hobby, its just too bad we can do more of it together. So be it.

I have only had mine since September last year. The weather being bad here in the winter especially with the amount of salt on the road meant that it did not really get used until May this year.

My wife has sat in the passenger seat and sat in the drivers seat too. That time I asked her to move it and it would not start. Fuel pump fuse (which has again sort of reared its ugly head).

She tolerates my love of the car, but has yet to acually drive or even be driven in it. Yep she has not yet been in it whilst it is moving. She hates the sound it makes, much too noisey!

I had the opportunity to drive her Mazda MX5 today to nip to the car accessory shop for some bits for my Honda. I have only ever drove it to the petrol station and back :D before. I thoroughly enjoyed it, a quick car for a 1.6, sounds great, painted red and reliable being Japanese!!

My ex used to call my car that P.O.S. She probably felt i spent too much time messing around with it and not her. She was probably right....... : /

They are great cars and lots of fun. I got 275k miles out of mine before I had the crank problem of the early cars. Original A/C lasted till 270k miles.

I have not done anything to it. One day I will get around to getting a new engine into it. I really miss driving it.

She does not like my cars, hardly tolerates them. Has called some of them F'ing cars at one time or another. She despises the Lambos, likes the Vipers. Go figure.

Yes that is the truth. I bring it on myself. I don't let her drive any of the Lambos, but she has driven the Vipers, and even has her own now. Plus, the attention the Lambos get........

They are good. My wife was considering swapping it for a new one (out November in the UK). Hers only has 15k on the clock (got a long way to go judging from yours) and it is a 98 model. I think she has decided to keep it and buy one of those BMW mini's aswell. Fingers crossed as you can never have too many cars :D

She calls it 'THE Car'. But she pretty much leaves me alone with it, to enjoy the open road.

My wife derogatorily calls it "the Penis car". She hates it, my girlfriend loves it though! LOL (just kidding dear).
