Just curious, not that I'd outrun one of these revenue generators but was curious their top speed.

Have heard the 4 doors top out at 130mph, a Mustang driving hwy patrol in AZ told me his car would do 148 as he was writing me a ticket a few years ago, Z28s are probably the same.

    Ideas?

It's not the car it's the radio...but seriously Crown vic's will do 130 easy.

I know the old radio thing, 130 is nothing, I am wondering if anything can keep up with a fast Ferrari to 170mph plus.

Your about right on the money.

The cars are not any more than heavy duty equipped vehicles - like a taxi. I have seen some limited "pursuit" vehicles that have had some mild power gains over the run of the mill production vehicles... But not lately.

The issue is not how fast the cruisers are, the issue seems to be that no matter how fast I build a car to be, I cant seem to beat the police radios.

The top speed for a Camaro Z28 is 160, probably a bit less for the cop cars.

But for the most part, you can count on being able to out run an individual cop. Just don’t plan on out running the cops.

Well if I were to really outrun a cop you would need to do it immediately hypothetically within 3 or 4 minutes and be far enough away for instance off the next exit with your banzai tail lights switched off before the next cop could get within range, if he's on you for 5+ minutes and can still see you, you are done.

Its not the speed of the cars its the radios (as someone said) and the choppers thatll get you.

Ive seen a cop Yamaha R1 so it would even out run a ferrari to top speed and have no trouble keeping up with any ferrari.

I remember in Gone in 60 Seconds he started pulling away from the cops when he reached about 140 and from the helicopter around 180.

And there are also the ex-drug dealer cop cars (I've never seen them but a reliable friend tells me there's a Viper and a Diablo around where I live) that could probably outrun you or at least keep up :)

My friend works for the local PD. He's constantly talking about what a POS a lot of the cars are. He does not drive the same car every day. But he says some of the cars would not be able to catch someone in the event they ran and he had no backup.

I know the Nevada Highway Patrol use to have Z-28s with twin turbos for high speed chases. Rumor was about 500 HP. Never seen one used in anger but I'd bet they'd be hard to out run.

In a straight line. You'd need a mighty straight road to outrun a helicopter that does 180 in any kind of motor vehicle at all.

I only had one guy outrun me but he was on a bike.

He killed himself 3 miles up the road by NOT taking a turn at 130.

Helicopters and airplanes take time to call in at least 10 minutes, I think if the turbo Z28s exist they may be the fastest, I also think their is a liability to the cops if you give a cop too much car so they may be limited as to top speed.

Here's a hypothetical situation not that it ever happened to me, you are travelling down a 4 lane highway towards dusk or early dawn speeding a bit, you see a cop going the opposite direction and you know he's nailed you as he's flipping a bi tch to come around after you, now he's not technically turned his lights on yet and is still turning around but you know or have a good idea he is coming after you, you then hammer it and are gone before he has had a chance to fully turn around and get up to speed to come after you.

Small Nevada towns are famous for speed traps such as Beatty or Pioche, cops will pull you over for going 1mph over the limit and its a $100 minimum fine which is why some of these small towns depend on this revenue, I know I have been nailed by these guys and its not like you are going to travel 250miles to fight the ticket you just pay it right or wrong.

Very true. Not too long ago, Sacramento PD took away all the Caprices from the beat cops and gave them the Crown Vics instead. There was a spike in citizen deaths and injury from cops going balls out to respond and during a chase.

Guess that hypothetical driver would get lucky, unless the speed trap has one of the high-tech digital cameras that will take a picture of your plate.

Another hypothetical situation. If you are in an Enzo and a camera takes a pic of the rear of your car for some sort of violation, but you sprayed that stuff that flashes your plates so the picture didn't get your plates. Just the back of the car at 140+. Could a police department say okay you have the only Yellow Enzo for 500 miles and give you a ticket, or would they not even bother looking into the amount of yellow Enzos?

Was there a question in there, J.P. ??

I've outrun them twice, but both times I was in my heavy residential neighborhood, it was 1-2-3 a.m., and I wasn't 'really' speeding - I just happened to see them hit the lights behind me when they were 2-3 blocks behind me, and I was able to do some very fast left-right-left-right turns about 150 feet apart and get into a driveway lights out before they knew where I pulled off.

Alas, I also tried that a third time, but got caught. Yeah, I was 'running', but I did it in such a way that it didn't LOOK like I was running. What did he get me for ? Expired safety sticker. He saw me as he passed me by, started to do a u-turn, I saw that and 'kinda' drove a bit faster - maybe 40 in a 25, but certainly not 75 mph, problem was I was in unfamiliar territory, so I didn't push it too much. If I would have been able to go about 200 more feet, he would not have seen my last turn. Oh well. Ticket cost $35.

Also, that was a lotta years ago, in my teen years, I'd never do that now.
My days of driving like a nut on the freeway have been over for 12-14 years, I was going about 145 and hit a pheasant square in my windshield, scared me into a heart attack (almost) - saw the bird coming and there was nothing I could do. I have not driven over 100 since then.
No, I didn't bring it home and cook it.

I was waiting for someone to post the Gallardos in Italy. They are the only cops I don't think are under paid. I know personally I'd work for free to drive a Lambo all day.

Whats the point. Not like they inforce speed limits on the autostrada as long as you are driving right.
