I am looking it to drop tops and I see that I can get an Alfa Romao for close to the money I would paid for a Miata. How are they to drive? What kind of cost would I have? Are parts hard to come by?

I have owned two(over 100K miles) , a stick and an auto tranny version. 1990 and 91 respectively. More fun than Miata, compare drives like I did in one day in 1990. Heritage? Mazda never won Mille Miglia..hehehe!
Parts are from Vick Autosports in TX or Intl Auto parts in VA..other sources too. Cheaper than Ferrari repairs, to be sure!
Good in snow, if U get caught in it..I never wrecked a Spider in the snow..bad storms with bald tires too! Top taken down at stoplights with one hand..no friends needed..hahaha
People always ask "what it is", esp in rural areas..so good conversation starter..
Suspension can be updated with Ward and Deane suspension..helps a lot! I did that on my stick shift version..not too stiff for road..it "transforms" the handling..but more speeding tickets too.
Engine can be tuned with valve timing, new cams, free exhaust after CAT etc..commonly done.
Join AROC to get informed..friendly club in most places of USA.
"Autoweek" (recently) says ALFA returns in 07 or 08 at latest..
    hope this helps..

Hell of alot of fun, decent performance, lots of style, chix love it, great character, good resale on the S4 spider(91-94). Engine and mechanicals simple for todays standards. Get a knowledgable mechanic to help you and she will be reliable. Weakpoints are gear synchros, flimsy trim and the occasional electrical quirk.

I love mine (Gtv6) and we are looking for a Duetto maybe. It is easy to work on and a whole lot cheaper than the Ferrari.

The active club in your part of the world will be the Roman Chariots. You might want to contact Ron Conlon [email protected]. They are having a driving event in Arkansas on the 22nd & 23rd. I am sure they could help you find a mechanic and potentially a car.

While ALFA parts are "cheaper" than a Ferrari they are not cheap by an means. This being said you will have something unique not another clone. It really depends on what you are looking for. The ALFA will be a ton more fun, but will require schedule maintenance. If you take care of the car it will take care of you. The Miata will require little maintenance but is essentially disposable.

I have owned ALFA romeos since 1973. They are still some of my all time favorites. My 1967 Duetto was, in my opinion, one of the prettiest cars ever made. I now drive a 1967 GTV that is about the perfect closed car.
As posted, they are very reliable and easy to service.
    Go fo it!!!

I love my Alfa. It has style and panache beyond most cars and stirs my emotions as much as anything else I've ever driven that's as exotic. After all, Alfa Romeo is the father of Ferrari!

I would agree - had a 1750 Spider and 1300 GT - they were both near perfect passionate driving experiences guaranteed to put more smiles per dollar than anything else.

an alfa in proper running order is a pleasure to behold and to drive, few cars match the alfa's feel, ragardless of price and performance.
