Is it more him than the car, or vice versa?

    How do you think he'd do, if both were in the same car, having the following as team mates;
    1) Hamilton
    2) Alonso
    3) Button

Who would be ahead in the points at the end of the year?

Seb is the best and getting even better.
He will beat his team mate, whoever it is, hopefully in a red car soon.

Tough one that, we can say Alonso and Ham are similar in pace, due to fact when Alonso was at Mclaren (but am not debating that again).

Button is more than holding his own against Hamilton, at present.

So at the min if all were driving the Redbull car and it was new to them all, funny as it may seem Button may just have it, as the others bash and tangle each other out.

If it was over one race, not Button, but there would be nothing in it between LH FA and Vet

So the smallest of things like a mistake from anyone of them would lose it for them, my money would be on.............Alonso, he can handle the pressure from behind. no pun intended.

It is to hard to tell to be honest...got to have lady luck on side, for sure.

I am with you, Kraftwerk. I think Alonzo is the best, but not by much. At this level we are splitting hairs. They are all talented.

I can agree with this. Vettel is no doubt a fantastic driver, but it's really tough when he doesn't have someone near his caliber as a teammate. I suspect Vettel's career will be long enough where we will certainly see him teamed up with someone more interesting.

I don't think anyone should write off Schu as one of the named top drivers. Not just saying this as a Schu fan, but just being objective regarding this fellow as he has made more passes than anyone this year, and he holds more fast laps over his teammate than any other driver this year. Although his qualifying is not as surgical as others, his race pace and race ability is as good if not better than anyone out there.

Good enough to be WDC x2 very soon. Car or not, he has or will shortly achieve it. Next year just might be 3. Ferrari and Mclaren are going to start from scratch again on their cars as Red Bull continue to refine a winner.

The jig is up for Red BUll next year IMO. Everyone is working 'round the clock this season in preperation for next season. IMO, Mclaren will be the team for 2013.

I think he is very good that fast lap in car this weekend where he went through the corner sideways.......WOW!

I don't think Hamilton should be on the list, I don't think he is very good at all, he would be in second place in the points except for his over agressiveness. Far, far too agressive he needs to realize finishing can be more important than winning.

Haha John do you want me to post mark this post..;)

    Haha..no he is hopeless

He qualifies well 2nd last time out, he is the one nearest to Vettel pace, if no one is in front of him, it would be boring he romps off to the winning line like Vettel does this year...

So the therefore you have a moot point.

The consensus on the BBC was that Red Bull have an advantage already for next year. This years car. Mclaren are already behind the curve and Ferrari still have no idea how to heat up their tires. Its been 5 years or so for Ferrari and tire problems/heat. Just ask Kimi and Felipe and now Alonso.
I for one would not bet heavily against Red Bull and Newey. Others are close but now after Spa and Monza they are not there yet or gaining at all.

I think Vettle will go down as one of the top 10 of all time, in the ranks of Fangio, Ascari, Schumacher, Clark, Senna, Prost.

Lewis is showing that he cannot let his agression go, settle down and race. This is holding back his quest for #2. Button has figured out that tire management is the key to winning this year. Lewis has not.

Alonso is so much better than this years car, and Massa is showing how bad the car is.

I believe Mclaren have an advantage with their 'L-sidepod' technology which I believe will be even more efficient next year. I suspect next year's sidepod will duct/cover the 'U' area in the sidepod further allowing more surface area to create downforce. RB and everyone else have no experience with this technology AND Red Bull's RB7 defining piece of technology -and bit that the entire car is designed around- will be gone next year. I am of course talking about RB's EBD.

Well, Schumacher and Alonso have won consecutive championships, and soon will Vettel. I'd say that puts them at least one rung above the others (even if the others get a second championship somewhere along the line).

Despite "not liking him", Alonso is the best of all of them. The Ferrari in any other driver's hands should not podium, but in Alonso's hands, it has done this.

Vettel is second, not so much because of solely driving skill as no doubt Hamilton is equal to Vettel in that category, but because Vettel is more mature. If he had driven silly as has Hamilton has this year, they would be a tie. Considering his age, Vettel's maturity on the track is impressive, a real champion.

I'm gonna have to see Alonso do a lap in the reasonably priced car on Top Gear to decide. LOL! Think he's the only one I haven't seen.

No doubt, Vettel in a phenomenal driver and has the car to back him up. Everyone's eyes are always on what the better cars are doing and how they can improve to be as competitive as RedBull and the like. I would never take away from Vettel's skills and capabilities. You'd have to see each of them race in the same exact car and that would take a lot of fun out of the sport. But I do think he's got what it takes to make it three in a row.

I've been impressed by Button lately, definitely making his way and passing a lot of people on the track. Thirteenth to 3rd at Spa, and now taking 2nd at Monza. I think he's got a lot more composure than his team mate, or who they're now calling WHAMilton. Lewis has to keep his cool a little more. He's got skills but he's gotta get them under control.

Alonso is great, but I think the car is letting him down. Doesn't seem anyones cars are holding up to RedBull. I mean, once Vettel was out in front yesterday at Monza, he just disappeared from sight within a few laps. Probably why Luca di Montezemolo said they'd take a phone call from Adrian Newey anytime he wants to talk about going over to the Red.

Last, I've got to give props to Schumi...he's been showing his stuff again lately and it's nice to not see him back in the double digits again at the end of the race.

I think Alonso could one up Vettel in the same car but Vet is a fantastic driver and has been nearly flawless this year. Credit must be given to his speed and consistency. However, FA dragging that POS into 2nd in the standings is a great achievement. His only retirement was at Montreal which arguably was not his fault.

Alonso is the best guy on track right now, followed by Hamilton. I think that if either of these guys were at Redbull they would be leading him in points. Vettel is a good driver, there is no denying that, but he is isn't on their level at least not yet. I think he's a good deal better than Button though.

You realize that the car that is designed most around the exhaust blown diffuser is the McLaren and not the Red Bull? Its a fairly minor part on the Red Bull in comparison.

The redbull is known to be very heavily designed around the EBD.. it's one of the main reasons that the car has so much rake.

Hard to argue with this. Seb has proven he can race and not just run away from the front. He appears to be the best driver on the grid and I really hope he moves to Ferrari sooner rather than later.

    I'll be the spoiler.

Vettle is winning. Period. Car or not he is kicking serious butt.

As for him moving to Ferrari I say he should stay with Red Bull. Screw Ferrari.

Make them WORK they way back to the top. Buying your way to the top is a hollow victory worthy only of scorn.

Agree with you both. I think those are your four best drivers, easily, and all equally capable. I would still rate Alonso ahead of Seb because he doesn't rattle when under pressure as Seb does. In a lot of ways, I think Seb and Hamilton are more alike than different as they both overreact once someone is in front of them. Despite what many believe, Seb is also an "entitled" driver (most champions are, btw)

Button is definitely the one guy you'd expect to stay calm and drive his way up the grid as the race wears on, while Seb and Ham would go for the immediate pass. FA is aggressive, but not as urgent.

At the end of the day, we're just splitting hairs. I'd take any of them.
