  1. Doc: God I love my job, would do it for free.

  2. Doc:Its ok, will do it the rest of my life. I'm happy.

  3. Doc:So, so.

  4. Doc:Pretty bad...wish I had done something else

  5. Doc:GOD, what have I done. Have mercy!! I hate it.

  6. Lawyer: Its awesome!

  7. Lawyer: Pretty good. Pays for the jet.

  8. Lawyer: Its ok. Pays for the beach house.

  9. Lawyer:Not great...didn't break a million last year.

  10. Lawyer: Pretty bad...God I hate myself...

You know, we have a lot of docs and lawyers on here...among others. Seems some viewers are contemplating going into medicine. Just as a reference, I think a poll is in order. I want to know just how happy the docs on this board are. Perhaps there is a silent though blissfully happy majority.

I would like to know the same of the lawyers...

    Should be educational

The poll doesn't have great validity for measuring happiness or comparing doctor and lawyer responses since most of the lawyer responses refer to money and not happiness.

I know...I never said it was a fair unbiased poll. I was working on the premise that lawyers are in general happier... :). If you want statistical accuracy to a P<.00001, I can redo the poll ;).

Funny post. As a CMA/CPA, I think it would be interesting to hear the same from Accountants. People tell you its great to get a profession, you'll never want for work, money is good etc etc... they dont tell you how hellishly boring and thankless it can be! I guess the same goes for the Lawyer/Doc, above.

I haven't voted, since I'm not a lawyer yet, but I'm on that path...

Could things get worse? Well, yes. Lawyers have among the highest suicide rates, lowest popularity ratings, highest pressure, and longest hours of almost any profession that exists. It's depressing, to say the least. On top of that, since 1989 lawyers have been subject to the previously unheard of sting of layoffs and downsizing.

    ...

It's not much better for partners these days either. In an American Lawyer article entitled "Misery," a successful partner at Covington and Burling and former president of the Harvard Law School's Alumni Association said, "If any of my children ends up going into practice of law, I will consider myself to have been defeated." Even among partners at the most prestigious firms, there is dissatisfaction. In recent years, the security of being a partner has ebbed as well, and brutal competition for clients now equals brutal competition for the most billable hours.

I like what I do. Kicking people's butts is fun, especially when they need it. Not only is it fun, you make decent money. Working for a large firm would have draw backs, because generally you represent people who've been sued.
