I would congratulate him on picking the better performing car. I would also tell him that he was very wise to avoid all the 355 issues that come with ownership. I would also congradulate him on sticking to his guns and buying what suites his needs best, and not being blinded by the horse on the hood. This is a man who seems to know what he is looking for, and is not afriad to buy what he wants regradless of what his friends might say. Good on him.

What a fool! Buy a car that outperforms the 355 in every way, needs little service and if it does the parts are readily available almost anywhere, is way more reliable,is brand new, comes with a warranty and costs half of what a car that is likely almost 10 years old will sell for?

I would say get the Z06 and then, would you please let me drive it. Saw it at the car show and want one. Probably will be under 65K and may blow away both the Ford GT and Viper.

New Corvette - definitely big bang for buck. Still not quite used to that tail yet but I'm working on it. Buddy at work has a yellow one which I sort of ogle every day. My biggest problem with the 'Vette is that it doesn't sound like much of anything. WUWT? Methinks somewhere in there is great music wanting to get out.

Anybody tell me why I ever sold my 350 hp/327, close ratio 4spd '66 Corvette which I bought brand new in 1966?

I wouldn't laugh at all. It really is hard to justify buying a Ferrari these days, especially a new one. The new C6 has 400hp and the new Z06 will have 500hp. These car have all the power of a new Ferrari at a fraction of the price. Old Z06's can be found for sale in the high $30k area, that has way more performance than a 355. Now add to that the retarded prices the Ferrari owners must pay for parts, and the very limited aftermarket for Ferrari performance parts. No even though it would have been nice for your friend to get a 355, I hate to say I think he made the better choice. Besides, now that the new F430 is out, the price of 355's has to come down even more. So if your friend really wants to get a 355, he will be able to buy one in a couple of years, at a savings of several thousand dollars.

I probably should have mentioned that he owns a Porsche ande several other sports cars but has never owned a Ferrari.

You guys are out of your minds!

What would you say if someone was about to buy the Enzo but decided to get the Corvette? Money is not an issue here.

I just depends on what he wants. If money is not an issue..then he will buy what he likes more. If he likes the Corvette more then an Enzo..so be it..thats his choice. I know people that would choose a Honda Civic over any Ferrari ever made..and they have the money too buy what ever they choose!.

Most people I find with money to burn..usually don't spend there money on expensive cars. They rather have the nice house, boat, cottage, kids through colledge and a healthy amount in investments and retirment savings. They have cottages etc aswell as a boat. But most buy a family car and another car for the wife to drive around, and maybe a car for each of their kids..but thats it.

Buying a Ferrari just because its a Ferrari is a mistake too many people make.

    hahaha good point. :)

    All right guys...

I'm not getting the kind of responses I had intended for, and it's making me angry! :D

So I'm going to answer my own question! :D

This is someone who obviously DOESN'T know what he wants. You don't plan for several months on buying a 355 and then say "I like the Corvette." You don't get your loan check for a 355 ready and then say "I like the Corvette."

In short, you don't plan a vacation to Rome and then at the last minute cancel and say, "You know, I think I'd rather go to Zimbabwe."

I visited Zimbabwe, and enjoyed it just as much as Rome, and it was a more rewarding trip. The culture was so different in a way that expands you. Victoria Falls was stunning, the wildlife was amazing, and the Boma (Game House) was worth the trip all by itself. The currency situation was a nightmare though.

Not to drag this off topic or anything ;)

I don't think that's really what he meant, but thanks for sharing anyways. :) I'd rather have a 355 but thats me, and I dont have the money for either, so it really doesnt matter. But like everyone else said buy what you want and what you will enjoy, not what everyone thinks you should have. But it is kinda weird he would go out looking for a 355 for several months then buy a Vette, oh well not my $$ as long as he will enjoy it.

    Good on him !!!

The new Vette is one heck of a car for the money....and (interior excepted of course) a really good looking ride as well.

Loan check? I thought he had $$$ to burn. Oh, I know, I forgot - he's a sharp investor and can make more $$$ if he doesn't have the cash tied up in the car. Sheesh, why didn't I think of that? Some guys are just born savvy.

Well I guess we should all sell our Ferraris and get the new Corvette!

Hell, why would anyone even want a Ferrari if he can get the new 'vette?

Why do people like those piece of **** 308s anyway? They've got only about 250 horsepower... they aren't nearly as fast as the new Corvette. What's with that?

And those HORRIBLE Testarossas! Who would want one for 65K if he could get the new Corvette? Ohhh, the maintenance, the nightmare! Get the Corvette!

These older Ferraris are such crap... they aren't fast, they're expensive to maintain, and they just don't have the technology that the new 'vette has. Good luck trying to find a touch-screen navigation in your 1983 Berlinetta Boxer! I think I'll now be selling my slow and outdated 348!

Touch screen navigation? In a car? WTF? You want touch screen navigation get an ATP and a job with Continental making $175K then you can play in glass cockpits and get paid nice money for it. My daughter works for Continental. I could put in a word for you and maybe she could have the caterers put quiche and Perrier on all your runs.

I think your friend made a wise choice as well!

I'd even rather buy the new Z06 than the new 997. The Z06 is more of a true sports car. Dry sump and all.

And, unlike the 997, it even has a dip stick. :)

nah, i'd say there is a car enthusiast who is buying for performance instead of penis enhancement.

I'd say that if he had is heart set on a 355 and bought a Corvette at the last minute, he is going to regret his decision. There is no doubt that the Corvette is a tremendous car for the money....but it's not a Ferrari. Period.

Based on the logic presented so far, he is stupid that he didn't skip the Corvette and buy a Subaru WRX STi or an Mitsu Evo, which have the performance even cheaper than the Corvette.

If you can afford a 355, you have your pick of a lot of incredible cars in that price range. Only the Ferrari is a Ferrari. What is wrong with you people? This is Fchat! You're supposed to LIKE Ferraris here!

Keep your Corvette, I'll take the 355 any day.
