    Hello everyone!

I'm back here with a question about something that is quite relevant to me (yes I'm the guy of the survey) but I also find very interesting because so far heard differing opinions...

What do you think of supercars' personalisation? Companies are investing quite a lot in it with Ateliers, new materials, carbon fibre composites, and other stuff to make the experience more immersive like VR headsets.
So, since they know better (or at least should) one should assume is an essential part of the whole experience.

How would you rate (from 1 to 10) the importance of this offering (including materials, service, designers or employee advice, virtual configurator and whatnot) when choosing a new car?

If you like the topic, I'd also be interested in knowing personal opinions on the trend in general and how much would you spend as a percentage of the car's price or just as an amount...

    Thanks in advance

    Cheers!

    Agreed.

Those personalizing their supercars with aftermarket aesthetics are generally motivated by ostentatious displays of wealth through custom options that nobody else values. Custom is just a synonym for ruined.

If you're going to do something different, order entirely new designs - that's not personalisation it's creation. For example, Ferrari P4/5 by Pininfarina and the SCG cars.

    All the best,
    Andrew.

After owning my F355 for 18 years, the only component on it that is non-stock is the front license plate bracketry I had to build to comply with state laws.

To be clear, are you referring to after-market personalisation or creating a personalised specification at the time of ordering the car?

And also, how are you defining ‘supercar’?

F12, 812, F8... those are production cars. Personalize the various options when you order yours of course. But please, I have one ask. For those of us than can’t afford to play in the new car market, please don’t ‘personalize’ your car so much that 90% of us would gag at your horrible choices. Seriously. Whenever I see “extremely rare color combination” in an ad, I read it as “ugly as sin, and I’m the only person on the planet that ordered one this way.”

Supercars on the other hand are the 288 GTO, the F40, the F50, the catastrophically ugly (sorry) Enzo...

Those cars, if you buy one and decide to customize it after the fact, there should be a rule where we are all allowed to come to your house and slap you, one after another. Don’t do it.

Quite right, I wasn't clear. I was not considering aftermarket personalisation, but only those offered by the companies upon ordering a new car.

Thanks everyone for sharing anyway. It's still interesting, and I too agree, I too think that most of the time those kind of personalisation are just car butchering...

By supercars I mean just to shorten the definition of luxury performance car. So pretty much as Ferrari would define it in its Annual report, a car with "Ferrari performance" or similar, and a price around the €130,000-€150,000 mark.

Anyway, I don't consider the Enzo ugly hehe, but I understand the point about the ugly colour combinations.
Many many people now though seem to do the same with companies official personalisation programmes on new cars just for the sake of being 'unique', and very often you end up with awful results. Isn't that just as bad?

I'm sure this is all just tongue in cheek. Everyone that has the ability and buying history to purchase new is only doing so for the folks who want to buy it at 1/4th the cost and exactly to their liking - and with delivery miles. :D

Changed my vote. I thought the question referred to mods.

If by personalization you mean getting to pick my own colours for my super expensive car (?!?), then, it’s all important. Not t sure I understand the heart of this question.

Since the can of worms has been opened, the Enzo is gorgeous, a super car for the ages. It is Marilyn Monroe

The f40 is ugly. Like the 1980’s threw up all over a car. It is Madonna. fast and plasticcy. Image Unavailable, Please Login But hats off to it for its performance accomplishments.

Yes, the personalisation I meant was that offered by manufacturers when the car is ordered. I was referring to them (Ferrari, Aston, Lamborghini, McLaren, Bentley and whatnot) when I wrote about their investments in facilities and services. So the question is exactly about how important it is for you in the overall ownership experience the fact of being able to choose wheels, materials, bodywork paint, and every little option available. Is it something you don't care about much as long as you drive a Ferrari (or something else)? Or you'd pick a brand over another because they offer much more personalisation options? (Just to make to extreme examples)

By the way, Don't agree on the F40 opinion but found your way to put it amazing haha
