Every time I drive my '86 328 GTS (built December 1985 for the '86 model year, 61515) I
think about Enzo, and it gets me to wondering - could he have seen my car come off
the line? Was he involved with production at that point? I know it's the last car model
over which he supervised development (or at least one of the last, probably also the
Boxer), but just how involved was he at this late point in his life? I always like to picture
the guys in the factory, with all their Christmas plans in their heads, on some cold Italian
afternoon when the last touches were put into my car, while I was a poor guy 7,000
miles away about to get married the first time, with a Ferrari only a long-away dream.
Could Enzo have been one of the guys watching that day?

It's certainly possible. Enzo died 14 August 1988, not 1986 (if that's what you were thinking). When did you buy your car, and from whom? How many miles...? Congratulations, by the way; the 328 is a wonderful, beautiful car.

He was involved right up to his death. He was involved with the F 40, the F1 Team, The TR. Before he died he gave some of his former drivers a special 208 GTB Turbo. I bought one of those for my son from Nino Vacarella.

Everything I have read and remember during that time confirms this. No doubt about it.

Enzo was generally involved in the 328 due to his constant direction of increasing power and improving performance in the automobiles he offered. But by this time I doubt he walked the production floor. Most of his business during this era was done around his office at Fiorano.

Regardless of his involvement, the 328 fully captures the passion of Enzo.

Very nice. I have "scoop" envy. ;)
