Great looking car, but will probably be getting stuck a lot in Chicago.

If you really want to drive it, jack it up about 2 feet and put big tires on it. Then hang a gun rack in the back window.

I have a 996 C4 as my one and only car here in Colorado. It drives great with snow tires. All the weight is over the rear axel. My buddy drives his 996TT for his winter car. You do have to watch for snow depth. But I'll guess you will be driving on plowed roads so it should not be much of a problem. You can always ask this question on rennlist.com.

C4 in the winter with the right tires is perfect for a Sportsman. But get the "S", please.

The 996S was "dressed up" whereas the 997S has actual upgrades (suspension, engine, etc).
