Always wanted a Ferrari. I am considering purchasing a preowned F360. I have read as much as I can and am starting my research for my first purchase. I looked into a 2000 Modena yesterday and I really was not too impressed yesterday. There was lots of chipping on the plastic around the interior door handles and the plastic was tacky/sticky feeling. Some of the other materials didn't appear to hold up as well as I thought they should. I tend to baby my vehicles and the interior finish of my 05 997S still looks like it just came off the showroom floor.

One look in the car I saw yesterday told me that if the interior was in this bad shape the owners most likely didn't keep up with the maintenance of the vehicle. This truly validated everyones concerns on getting a vehicle with complete service history. The salesman was showing me the 30k service bill but couldn't product any other service records.

So all of the words above and here is my question. What is the quality of the materials, ie leather, plastic, etc, in Ferrari's and how do they hold up over time? Does your interior plastic chip pretty easily?

I think it depends on a lot. First off the 360 interior is WORLDS better than a 355 (not to bash the 355- I love them too). But it still has it's weak parts- the interior door handles, ash tray, outside rearview mirror control and window switchs are parts that are farily common to start scratching on a 360. On my car none of these parts are marred, with the exception of some wearing on the window switches, but my car has <15K miles- how many miles were on the car you were looking at? I believe there is a sponsor on f-chat who refinishes these parts- I guess if some of them needed to be refinished every 10-15 years it's not the end of the world relative to the other costs of properly maintaining a ferrari.

The rest of the interior may require more work to maintain since it's (real) leather, but is really top notch for a ferrari, which is itself a special car. Your porsche is more of a mass produced car that can be and usually is used everyday- and you can't take offsense to that comment as I was (and still am) a porsche owner too :) The ferrari could be used everyday but I think leaving it out in the sun I'd be frantically protecting all that leather. The 360 interior is beautiful- I can't beleive the high quality leather and the craftmanship. My car has the optional colored stitching and it shows off the quality of construction from the dashboard to the sill overhead- it's everywhere, even in the rear corner windows.

Yet as good as the 360 is, I drove a 599 GTB and that interior is even more amazing. Overall, coming from a porsche to ferrari you have to realize you're just getting into a different type of car- quality or reliability are difficult to measure when you're comparing cars that are as different as they are similar. I hate to use the oft-used phrase, but a Ferrari 360 is artwork as much sportscar.

I have to ask- what was the $30K repair for? Only thing I can think of is a variator failure requiring a partial rebuild and clutch at the same time or something like that....that is an awfully high bill for a 360.

I imagine he meant the 30 thousand mile service. That is the big one with the belts.

On the sticky, it can be removed as mentioned above. Mine is not doing this (yet) but it may & the gummy can be removed (a member here can also do it for you if you send pieces to him) other than that no issues in the interior. Its a rubber like coating that Ferrari had applied to those pieces, its a thin layer & for some (unknown) reason that happens- do not know if its sun/heat/chemical combination of that breaks it down but something does..

Great car - once you own one- it will all make sense :)

Correct. The 30k service with belts and all. Thank you all for the input. I appreciate. I agree, the leather does look like a better quality then my Porsche.

No quality issues with my 2003 F1. As a pre owned only as good as prior owner cared for the leather etc.

So true. I traded in my '08 997TT for an '04 360 spider. Older car, no cup holders, no heated seats. I LOVE it. It is truly a drivers' car. It is meant to be driven and no fooling around!!

    Go for it.
