Ignition on, Wait for fuel pumps to slow, One prod on the gas, turnover, about 3-5 minutes between 1,000 and 2,000 until the water temp comes up and the engine settles, off we go. (Best free show in town !!) John
That is exactly the same starting procedure I use for my Alfa Romeo, and I think applies to any engine with Webers (or Delorto's, etc.). No need for choke, just 3 pumps and away you go. You can skip the electric fuel pump priming too, as the Alfa's is mechanical and also the warming up. I'd wait less than 1 minute before I'm off, but driving easily and with light throttle ... do the same with any car. Pete
With my 360 CS and 360 Modena before that, I start it up and let it idle until the water temperature starts to go up. Once it does, I leave the garage and put around at low RPMS until after 5-10 minutes I start to see Oil temperature. Once I have decent oil temperature, I proceed to drive like a madman, making uncle Enzo proud while hopefully ensuring that the engine lasts and is fairly problem free (as was my '99 360 which had close to 14k miles on it when sold).
doesn't work for my mondial t anymore, it jumps out of 3rd into neutral when cold i have to push it very hard into 2nd while standing, then i need about 10 miles of driving till i can shift again. not that easy in my location.
I let car warm up in my garage till my wife starts yelling at me to get out as the house is shaking due to the Tubi. My drive to work is only about three miles and I like to have a little fun on the open roads before 6am so I must warm up a good few minutes before going
..'till I get tired of all the surrounding car alarms going off! Then the whole apartment complex knows that Speedy308 is awake! And on his way to the office!
Its the high piched whisteling noise that 355 do on cold start up. Something to do with the air injection i think. They all do it,so i have been told. Every one i have heard does it from cold.Lasts about 3 or 4 mins,Dosnt yours?
engines warm up faster with a slight load on them, prolonged waiting for temps to come up does little except warm the coolant... rolling off gently once the idle has stabilized ( engine responds to throttle ) warms / loosens the transmission as well... a lot has to do with the outside air temp but ususally there is enough heat in the engine within the first minute or mile or so to where the car can be driven in a reasonable manner. the temp gauge we refer to measures coolant temperature, cylinder head temps and exhaust gas temps come up quickly
Welcome to Ferrarichat. FYI - this thread was from 2004 and the last time Erik330 checked in was 4-2010.
I wait until the temp needle twitches. Or window defrosts so I can see. Am gentle for the 1st few miles baby shifting until "stick doesn't stick". Rule of thumb: let one complete rock song play before you leave driveway!
