    Just been to a dealership to look at a 328 with 17000 miles, the dealership said the clutch needs to be done. After querying the longevity they told me the clutch only last 15-20,000 miles and some only 8,000! How long has your clutch lasted?

    I used to own a TVR and the clutch on that had lasted 60,000 miles and was still fine.

    I did 77,000 kms on a clutch in a 308 GTB when I pulled it out it was about 50% worn. Since it was out I've had it re-lined but there is no reason why it wouldn't have continued on to do about 150,000 kms.

    it all depends how you drive it!

    Regards,

    Carl.

    At the end of the day I guess that everything depends on the use you make of the car. My one has 31000 km on the clock (19.000 miles) and is still pefect. If you need to replace it after just 17.000 miles, begin to have serious doubts on:
    - true mileage;
    - previous user habits in driving.
    Ciao

    Eugenio.
    P.S. Marc, I'd really love to be able to drive a bit so to exceed 40000 km asell.

    I've heard of them lasting at least 50000 miles including lots of standing starts hill climbs and test days etc etc

    Its like the submarine movie, where the new guy asks how deep it will go. The captain answers, "all the way to the bottom if we dont stop her". If someone didnt know how to drive, or was very abusive, a new clutch could be destroyed in hours, even in minutes under extreme cases. But barring oil or anything getting on the clutch, driven correctly it could last 200K miles or more. Its just like anything else, how you drive.

    It all depends...I bought a used 328 that had the clutch replaced at around 25k miles (I bought it with 29k). Just never know...I have seen all sorts of Ferraris with clutches replaced at relatively low mileage...so who knows...yes, it could be from abuse or driver error, but I also think Ferrari clutches are not the most stout things around.

    My 328 has almost 81000 miles and there's no record of the clutch being replaced. I bought it with 53000 miles three years ago, so it's done at least 30000 miles thus far

    Like Paul said, it's how you drive.
    Some will last a very long time, others will be destroyed within a few thousand miles.

    Thanks for all your replies, I think I need to talk to the garage again and get a little more history on the previous owner. It sooooo difficult not to just buy a 328 on impulse. ;)

    Many people are tough on clutches even though they are not abusive drivers, so I would not worry about it too much. The 1st 328 I owned was on it's 3rd clutch at about 25K miles, and then it changed owners. I bought it with 33K on it, drove it to 42K and sold it. Last I knew, it was sold with 53K and still had the 3rd clutch. The car was very well cared for and maintained, the 1st owner never learned how to drive a stick properly. Many go 50K, but they are small clutches by design and do wear more quickly than regular cars. One theory is that Ferrari made them small in order to protect expensive motors and trannys from drop clutch launches.
