My friend just bought a 599 with 5.5k miles on it and it has a new clutch...the dealer said it did not really need a new clutch but it because a certain percent of the life was used up it needed to be replaced to be Ferrari certified pre-owned. What is the life expectancy on a F1 transmission clutch? Also would be curious to know about the new dual clutch transmissions as well.

Depends on use. Very hard use including track and hard launches not long. (4K-) Calm use a lot longer. (40K+)

Dual Clutch boxes with clutches in oil are supposed to last indefinitely.

    We shall see.

Of course any type of incline also shortens clutch life. As for the new gearboxes, well its my beleif nothing truly lasts forever, perhaps with frequent gearbox oil changes life can be prolonged but to say they will last forver is in my opinion a bit of marketing..

    My 575 has more than 50k (35k miles) and my 599 has 33k k (22k miles).
I never had a problem whatsoever with clutch.
I never went on race track with my personal cars and I suppose that it could make a difference but to tell you the truth I'm a bit surprised that thay had to change it at such an early stage. Also I drove the 599s of the ferrari owners pilots courses in Fiorano. They had similar milieage and the chief pilot told that they never changed the clutch so far. They use them for approx 30k km and then they sell them to private people.
